Mine just started that crap too.  Worse is that the oil pressure gauge vibrates like a mother and makes a terrible rattling racket every time I stop at a light and it drops below max.

My tach goes off/on when I turn the AC off/on  :o  I think they share a fuse and may be grounded in the same place. I'm going to dig out the wiring diagrams and try to hunt it down one day. I added an aux. ground to the metal part of the instrument cluster and it didn't help...

I think I read somewhere that the 2 O-rings on the oil filter center tube can leak and cause a wonky oil pressure gauge.  I'd check them out the next time you change oil.

What's making the racket?

As I said, the oil pressure gauge.  It rattles up and down (short distance) very very rapidly if it's anywhere below max.

When I first got my 300SD it would take a while before any oil pressure would read and the needle acted strange. I replaced those two rubber O-rings on the oil canister tube (the old ones were shrunken), and after that all was well.

The 200D's odometer crossed 200,000 on my return trip.

1200 miles this week  8)  Not including the 60 mile trip to take my daughter back to school.

A Georgia State Trooper was nice enough to give me a courtesy warning during the trip  :o

The odometer was at 97000 when I drove her the 600 or so miles home in April. Now the's about to turn 110,000  :)   Little cold snap here and I have no complaints about the heater  8) The old diesel fired right up this morning. It's supposed to be below freezing in the AM. I'm on the road in this great old car now and I'm looking forward to the drive home.

Just another 200,000 miles and yours will have as many miles as mine! I'm amazed at how tight my engine still is. Just imagine if you installed Euro headlights--you would have three pairs of fog lights!

I drove my 1980 300SD all the way from Omaha, NE to Detroit, MI non-stop.  It was when I first got the car and needed to get it back home to start the restoration.  I did 70-80 mph non-stop all the way home.   It really impressed me that a car of this age had all the road manners and confidence.

I am the proud owner of a 1980 300 SD Turbo Diesel W116.  I found the vehicle in Palm Desert California in 2006.  I have gradually restored the vehicle mechanically and appearance wise back to original OEM.
