Title: Fresh Wood
Post by: 116Benz on 01 October 2007, 09:21 AM
Well, I finally got to starting work on the timber parts in the SEL, as you can see it didnt take much to make my mind up to get some new zebrano parts, the interior of the car is getting back to usable again.
Now for the photos...

This part had what I can only describe as a bottle of iced coffee spilled over it, it had glued the power windows to the timber, removing them also took the top coat of lacquer with it.

The ashtray, no damage but just looked dull and the replacement looks so much nicer...

The replacements..from Styria & Parks Wonderful World of Wood!

Looks so much better..the switches I found on ebay for the sum of 30 bucks, 2nd hand, the drivers side switch needs some help though...I have to fiddle with it for it to work. Oh and a fader switch,

It is really amazing to see what a difference new wood makes. I fail to understand how people can abuse cars they way they do!!

What surprses me Greg, as much as theres some little things that could be fixed on it, the previous owner decided that once it started to show its age, it was a downhill run. I spose it was a benefit for me hence the purchase price, but now that the heavy stuff has been done its all the fiddly things now that need attention. It does drive so nice though...

It's also amazing how much colour the console has lost. Any plans to inject some colour back into it, and if so, how ? Vinyl paint ?

Theres a few places interior wise that need some loving by way of vinyl paint, the bleached look of the console was partly my fault, I got a tad over zealous with some carpet shampoo and theres a big patch on the pass. side of the console thats not so pretty...thing is being dark green inside it might be a hunt to get a decent match.

Has anyone thought of having the woodwork "cubic coated" ? Heresy I know, but it does last forever. Here is a link to the a web site and the process. Basically it is a transfer, applied under water, and will shape itself to the part being coated. This is not the site I wanted, but it will give you an idea. Preparation is no different than if you were to apply stain and clear coat. It needs to be perfect, otherwise any imperfections show through in the film. I know there was a place in Melbourne doing it, but can't find them at the moment.
