That is your build card.  They were originally attached to the rear of the backrest.  Obviously yours has come loose and fallen down.

'76 6.9 Euro, '78 6.9 AMG, '80 280SE, '74 350SE, '82 500SEL euro full hydro, '83 500SEL euro full hydro , '81 500SL

So that should say all the extras in the car (when built)

jbrasile

Great find Calvin!,

This is basically a production line datacard and tells you all of the option codes, engine and trasmission numbers, etc... I have seen them glued in the trunk under the parcel shelf as well.

If you post a clear picture I am sure we can decode it for you.

Tks,

Joe

Yes,

the first option I can see on the left is 46 with a 7 under it, ie option 467

Then 524, 570, 584, 592, 600, 613, 622, 631, 666,

It also looks like your paint code is 040, which is black.

Calvin,

Sunroof would be code 410, I don't see it in the picture but is it maybe more towards the left?

Tks,

Joe

calvin streeting

Thats a photo of all of it..

but on the right after the 105

|40|41|42|43|
|1  |0  |0  |6 |

so maybe thats the 410...

jbrasile

Yes,

401 - separated seats
410 - sunroof
420 - automatice transmission
436 - elimination of front left and right automatic (self-reeling) safety belts (from 01.01.1973 up to 30.04.1979)
436 - elimination of front and rear safety belts (from 01.05.1979 up to 28.02.1986)

401 separated seats was an option? Have we even seen a W116 with a bench seat?

1980 W116 300SD Turbo Diesel, DB479 Walnut Brown, Sunroof, Heated Seats, 350,000+

jbrasile

Hehehe.... no but a lot of cars from that period have that option code. I have seen a 114 with a front bench, but as far I know on the 116 it wasn't even possible to order one.

My understanding is that the foam blank in the instrument cluster fills the area that is used as an indicator when a column shifter is fitted and that this was used in 116's in combination with a bench seat.

I have seen photos of the column mounted shifter but not the front bench seat.

Bill

jbrasile

Yes Bill,

I have never seen the bench seat either, in fact I just checked the EPC and there is no mention of a bench at all, go figure....

Tks,

Joe

Calvin, I thought you said that the sunroof was retrofitted? In this case your card confirms the state in which the car left the factory.
