Fastest you have driven your W116

Just wondering what is the fastest you have driven your W116. I have seen some great You Tube video's with some serious speeds. ;D.
The fastest i have taken my 6.9 up to is "allegedly" 160kph. I am sure the people of Germany, or up until a few years ago people who have driven in the Northern Territory have gone much faster. ;)

It's possible that I have driven the 6.9 at the above speed, but I cannot confirm that. ;D

I may have also done 180km/h, and I think it felt very stable, as the road was dead straight and flat and there was no other traffic. ;)

This was in another state. ::)

So far I have only taken her to 90 mph (280S) cops here frown on people driving their cars the way they where meant to be driven...

110mph in the 80 450SEL in LA, I will not reveal a time or on which freeway...

180 kph in the 78 450SEL here in Brazil

AND

230kph in the green 6.9 we restored, with the owner as a passenger just to see if the 18 months spent in the first phase of the restoration were really worth it...

I may have once driven a certain 6.9 across a certain desert at a sustained speed such that a full fuel tank was brought down to reserve in just 275km.

I routinely drive my 280SE for long distances at 128km/h true speed, but apparently in my younger days I may have driven it significantly faster than that.

160/100 280S
140/86 350.  I've never trusted the tyres on my 350 to go faster.  I've been slowly wearing out three sets of spare wheels which have been shod with cheap tyres so it hasn't been worth spending up big on decent tyres, particularly since the car's not a daily driver.
Only good thing about cheap 14" tyres if they have soft walls are the bragging rights you get for hitting speed bumps at ridiculous speeds where other cars with 17"+ wheels would fracture a rim.

In my less sensible years I took my 6.9 to its top speed on a perth freeway several times. Which I think would of been a displayed 230ish. On the last time I got caught by the cops coasting down to the speed limit. So ill never do that again.

Ooops, I forgot....

180kph in my old 74 280S - engine screaming.... that car had the optional 3.92 rear end which made for very high rpm's on the highway and didn't help noise levels of fuel consumption.

195 kph (indicated) in a client's 76 280S 5 speed

150 max. reckon it would probably do more but i don't have the level of comfort for the car yet and doubt i'll ever push it that hard again anyway.  It sneaks from 100-130 without hesitation.  have to use a bit of caution in that regard.

I remember getting my 280S up to 110 MPH.  I didn't notice much noise, but maybe because I expect it.  I do remember how good it felt at that speed.  I think Every Mercedes I own screams at highway speeds anyway, as they're all 6 cylinders with really tall rear axle ratios.  My 250se Coupe had a 4.09:1 rear axle ratio in it when I bought it.  70 MPH equaled 4,500 RPM.  So I put a W108 4.5 rear axle in it with a shorter ratio (I can't remember the ratio it is at the moment) and I can now cruise at 70MPH turning about 3,800-4,000 RPM.  When I drive newer cars I think something is wrong because I can't hear anything. haha.

Hi speedsters,
I remember having a dream I was doing 235kph in my Gold Euro 6.9 and maintained that speed for a good few minutes before I came to my senses. I am sure it was just getting wound up and sounded absolutely awesome with its lukey muffler and twin hot dog exhaust system.
That particular car had a great motor which I do miss it at times.
Cheers
