Hi,

i´m searching for pictures from famous owners which have had a 450SEL 6.9.

I know from some 6.9-VIPs (most of them are germans).
Here an example:

James Hunt

Niki Lauda

Jean Louis Trintignant (french actor)

Who know more VIPs with a 6.9?

Wolfgang, fantastic photos, I haven't seen them before.

My only contribution is this incredibly tiny pic of Jack Nicholson.  Got it off the net a long time ago, I can't remember if it's a 6.9 or not.  Does anyone know, did Jack have a 6.9??

Dont forget this one, Claude Lelouche!!!
The most famously infamous 6.9 owner!

Reggie Jackson's 6.9 was just up for sale on eBay.

The Official Australian Government car for Prime Minister Whitlam was a W116 long wheel base. I can't remember of it was a 280SEL or a 450SEL. Maybe OzBenzHead remembers?

My memory is that it was reported in Wheel's magazine at the time as a 450SEL.

There was a hue and cry from the local car industry that he was using a non- Australian car.

I posted the question on the MBCNSW site and received the foolowing answer -
Yes, it was a white 1973 450SEL with tan trim. My father in law owned it for a few years in the early 1980's. I remember it had column gear shift and special reading lights and curtains in the rear windows.
I will see if he remembers who he sold it to, maybe somebody knows where it is now?

if you havent seen the film he shot driving around paris, with the camera bolted to the front of his (i think)  then it was a 6.3, you must get a copy its amazing.

The Claude Lelouche film driving a 6.9 around Paris is brilliant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUbe125ege0

I think the way the soundtrack has been dubbed is very clever and had me fooled before I knew it was a 6.9.

just went an checked out the video, its not the one he shot with the merc, i saw that before and its different to this one.this one sounds either like a 6cylinder or a 12, doesnt sounds like an 8, and lots of manual gearchanges.
am i wrong on all counts here??its just that i dont remember seeing this footage from the other one i saw which was shown on the box with his commentary, he was being interviewed at the time

Sort of.   Basically, that vid above is the "Rendevous" film by Claude.  The second film which you've seen sounds like the one where he talks about the making of it and was filmed only a few years ago.  The car in Rendesvous is his 6.9 and he chose it partly because of it's unique suspension to keep the camera still.  Look at the photo above that 116benz provided.  Lots of rigging, lots of bulk and weight in the cameras back then.  This was shot without sound but then a Ferrari was used to provide the sound hence the manual gear changes and the non 6.9 sound.

How do I know all this  -  I was there......... ::)  Ok, no I wasn't, ;D but Rendevous pops up now and then and I did a few searches not that long ago - google, wikipedia, IMDB mainly, plus youtube again.  I think IMDB.com had the most info.  On youtube, look for the British program "Fifth Gear" which retraces the route and gives a little info on the original.

EDIT:  I had to check my facts ::) but check these links http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169173/trivia and the Fifth Gear episode http://youtube.com/watch?v=ezcV5kQFr9o  I'm sure I read more detail but no idea where now.  Did a bit of a google and found a site or two that still say it's a Ferrari.  We know better though. ;D

So sorry I'm not famous, but I have owned the ex-James Hunt 6.9 since June 2000.

I also know that the late Ian Smith, then Prime Minister of Rhodesia in the UDI years had a blue 450SEL.
A few years ago (I guess about 2002) it was with a specialist dealer in Harare but he wanted more than I had then.

Are you in Africa or the UK ? If Afrika, how/when did the 6.9 get there ?
