Holy cow, those front seats ie the differences in the side bolsters.  I never knew.  Thanks for posting those pics 116benz, i can see where you guys are coming from and now I'm not sure what I've got.  I tend to think the rear seat difference in appearance is just padding but I was wrong before so my thoughts aren't worth much atm. ;D

I had a theory that the W116 1st used W109 seats for the 1st batch of cars built, I'm still researching but, there should be some more evidence.

If you can find an old, untouched 109 seat, it should have a part number on a small piece of paper inside the backrest, or under the seat bottom. 116 seats have a 123 part number on the little piece of paper, which I guess a 109 won't.

Well, like mine, they've got the backrest adjustment knob facing the doors, not the gearbox tunnel like most 116's.  However, I don't have the chrome plates that go behind those knobs.  I wish I did but it appears that was a 108/9 thing.

Tomorrow I will look for these part numbers you speak of Craig.

I've done some more research (ebay was the quickest resource) seems 73 & early 74 had the flatter seats.
