Brought home another old girl..

Craigslist alerts be damn.

Brought home a '83 240D 4-Speed manual in labrador blue. It's a US-Spec car that lived in Germany until 1985. 286,000 miles and slow as molasses.

It's pretty clear after owning this for a month that the W116 is a superior car in every single way. Of course it should be, but everything about the 116 seems better. The only thing I prefer in the 123 is the manual climate control. (Which the W116, has just not in the SD).

Just thought I'd share the addition to the growing collection.

Cool,  the 240D has nicer bumpers though.

Now you just have to replace the odometer on the 240D with a calendar and you're golden ;D

There is a reason why they put the giant clock on the 240 instead of a tach.  ;D

Some decent photos today after the snowfall.

All the Aussie members take note at the wallabies  ;D. My neighbors are Australian and went back for two months during the winter so I park a spare car there when it snow.

If you thought the 240 was slow... my first Benz was a 200D. It makes the 240 look like a gazelle! I am talking Citoen 2CV slow!
This guy apparently has some serious love for slow cars..

Would love for Clarkson to arrange for a drag race between the 2!

What did surprise me was that, despite my young age back then and my teenage need for speed, I was instantly pleased with my rather beaten up W123. Yes, it was slow beyond belief and an absolute laughing matter at each traffic light, but the car slowed ME down as well! Life became Zen, handing me an opportunity to enjoy the views outside, to enjoy the ample cabin space and the comfort of the chairs. The engine RPM was clearly limited, and within a range that would tell you again and again you could never stress it or break it. It would run forever.
I don't think I ever enjoyed a slow car that much. That would not stop me from glancing jealously at 240D owners, though. How sweet the W123 must be, with that type of horse power!

i agree with you 100% floyd, there is something about the slow cars which calms you a little. the problem is in something like our gwagen, everyone thought it was new 30 years after it was made so they would keep trying to drag you off and tail you which pissed me off, thats why i put the 500 in!

nice car Harv, it looks like you have plenty of room on you property for another 6 car garage though, what are you waiting for!!

To balance the 6.9 and E55, I also have a 1972 220d... as above, it slows you back down again to a sensible pace of driving!
