This is my worst one yet.....

Actually, it had been an exellent, unmarked one-owner car until this happened to it :

THe brightwork was/is excellent with no clouding at all - unfortunatley, most of if got ruined when the enthusiastic fire department removed roof tiles off the damaged garage roof and dropped them down with disregard for the car underneath.  So, the car has like hail damage, but not nice round, smooth dents, but sharp dings from the tiles.

Between pompy and I we are salvaging :

a) remaining brightwork (about 25% of it)
b) tail lights
c) perfect rear bumper
d) perfect trunk linings and carpets
e) I'm taking the rear sideshafts for my 280SE.  Unfortunately not the diff - its a 3.92, I need a 3.68
f) right rear door
g) right front door - has some dents from the roof tiles, but repairable.
h) rear trunk side wells

The rest is going to the tip.

All the sheet metal is rust free.

The trunk lid, and left hand side panels have too many dents from the tiles to be useful.

The p.o.s. Honda that had been parked next to it is what started the fire  >:(

Yegods what a mess, that would be heartbreaking indeed. Seems like fire brigades are the same the world over, without wishing to criticise too much they can often make as much damage as they prevent.

Not that it matters to me, but they caved in the roof crown by walking all over the car.

Gees,

At least the parts are going to a good home(s).

Is it a 280S? I didn't know they had different diff ratios, I'll have to check what I've got.

Yes TJ, its a '75 280S.  It seems they either had the 3.69 ratio like the 280SE, or 3.92 (which seems more common here in South Africa)

As deposited outside my house by the towing service :

Inside my yard, surveying the damage :

Well,

That's a great shame.

At least some of the interior looks salvageable. It looks like the same interior colour as mine.

TJ, the leather was essentially perfect before this mishap.  It is now covered in stickyish soot.  I would say that if this much could be removed, the leather should be salvageable with minimal damage.  I'm thinking that this may be a job for those leatherique cleaning potions.

In the meantime, I removed the seats and put them in safe storage.

It looks like there are many good parts. That sedan looks so alien to me with the combination of right hand drive, manual transmission, and no headrests on the front seats! Also, I'd be careful around the plastic because I have head that burnt plastic creates an acid that will melt your fingers off of you touch it.
