What's the read on this recent listing in Australia.

It's listed as AMG tuned 6.9 and from the photos has such features as heated front seats.

Not a fan of the after market wheels and exhaust.
Keen to know from the group if this is a genuine AMG W116.

Interesting find.  Agreed on wheels and exhaust.  I'm also not a fan of the rear spoiler though I guedss that's what AMG did.  My tastes run conservative.

So, real or fake AMG?  I'm no expert, but I lean towards fake.  Spoiler is absolutely fishy.  My impression is that AMG spoiler had a more oval/roundish shape, not rectangular like on this car.  This one isn't integrated with lower grill at all, just covers it.  And it's affixed with philips head screws???  OTOH, there's AMG logo on the speedometer.  Doing that as an aftermarket trick seems like a lot of trouble.  And why no engine pix?  And why cover the dash unless it's cracked?  And palomino carpets with black interior seems unusual, at best.  And no option codes listed.  I'd be interested in other folks comments.

To add to that, there seems to be a lot of contradictory rubbish out there on the AMG 6.9.  I found one listing that said that the 6.9 was an AMG-modified 450SEL bored to 6.9L by AMG.  They're asking huge $$$ for this car (USD$78k!).  For that amount it better be real and much better documented IMO.  Cheers,
-Dave

Well whadaya know?  I think I found the car on the M100 registry.  No mention of AMG anything, but as far as I can tell the registry doesn't seem to have a search field that would capture that, or any other option info for that matter.

#5554 must have literally popped up.  This car is synonymous with the forum, previously belonging to Dr William Babe who has some of the seminal posts on the 6.9, including the strut rebuild here.  He passed away two years ago.  I helped his family sell a couple of his cars but a little strangely, they directed the 6.9 to be sold by another who undervalued it significantly, and the buyer has obviously bought it, cleaned it, and thats it.  Now selling it for probably 85k premium on what he bought it. very disappointing for Bills family.  The car is not an AMG vehicle, its a Hong Kong import originally owned by the governor of Hong Kong (he must have been balling!).  Its been in WA since the late 90s.  Bill did all the bits himself including getting the speedo plate printed, he made a few for other members too as he was that sort of gentleman.  I wouldn't have valued the car at this by quite a bit, but it was a high 5 figure car and im disappointed his family is not getting the money from the sale evidently.

Thanks Nathan, I knew you would have the detail on this car. Pity about the aftermarket mods exhaust and wheels.  As optioned and in good running order (excluding the AMG paraphernalia) its AUD$65ish to AUD$75ish I would think, partly because its not an AUSTRALIAN delivered car but otherwise good pedigree it seems

Ive sent the advertising dealer an enquiry to seek further information on the data card, engine bay pics and any documentation about the vehicle's provenance.

The car trade ... full of 100% fine upstanding citizens. Why do they bother to blur the number plate, when they're non-transferable club plates, but forget two pics? Knuckleheads.

I sent the advertising dealer an enquiry last week and specifically asked for any material to validate their inference that this is an authentic AMG 6.9.  Following Nathan's background on this car.  I have had no response, which I have never experienced from a dealer on Carsales, so I am guessing no such paperwork exists to back up the AMG provenance of this car.

Now at $120,000 dollars, i'll attach some pics of the add for future history. you will note in the pics he still had his w116.org grill badge on, I bet many of you didnt know a run of these was made a few years back!  GP, I dont imagine the dealer in their defence, has any clue about the car.  Bill did not do this to his car under any false pretences, he just enjoyed it, the look and did what made him happy.  He never tried to pass it off as an AMG.  From the advert, some muppet has pried off the AMG logo he had on the steering wheel which is a rather sad demise.

and some pics in days gone by.  The dodge shot, is when I think I considered buying the car around 2001.  It sold to a former forum member Chris M.  This  was before I found my car which I have had 20+ years now.  Then a pic of when I went up to Bills house to get the car started for his family late last year.  I managed to get it going and it pumped up.  Literally the only thing the seller has done since then is bust the logo on the steering wheel and clean it!  The final pic is when I used Bills car in my wedding about 20 years ago, when it had 8 spoke 140 alloys on it. I know this car reasonably well, and I know it does not have any engine mods.

Thanks Nathan for uploading the pics. No issue with what Bill did to the car, the dodgy dealer is another matter.  As a testament to Bill, an unsuspecting buyer would not be suspicious about its AMG pedigree given the careful effort Bill has gone to - pity about the steering wheel centre piece.  While mine is not a 69, it also transported the wife to the our ceremony in March 2022.

6072 wasn't on my radar by VIN, but popped up on car sales (its always nice to find a 6.9 in the country I didnt know about!). An Australian yorkstar car, the seller is the daughter of the original owner which is kind of unique.  350,000km, silver paint on blue leather, it still has its Becker.  It looks like a nice solid example.  They have it at $72,000. No engine shots, or pics if it has the suspension blocks.

Wow, quite a find. Also a testament to how good these cars can do with higher mileage if they are cared for.
