although I've been keeping tabs on these for a while, we tend to just have individual posts on 6.9 sales at the time. might be worth putting them all in one post. so here it is, please upload pics (rather than links) to this site and some details such as price, site of sale, kms and any other info!

ill start with last weeks local hot topic. the one that went for 66k at auction! 77000km, looked ok - but I'm sure we could all be critical for that money!
sold at Shannons auction last week
anyway, here it is

whilst on the Shannons auction site, there was this ronin from 2010. looks nice enough, 9500 looks a lot more enticing than 66k!  interesting brown on brown, even if it had the wrong steering wheel! looks like a euro with the oil cooler

looks like Aussie with the engine but then has the velour seats? I know there are one or two Aussie cars with velour,  but they are very rare.

It's a real mixed bag looking at all those together. The big question is will these other more average ones sell. The recent Shannon's car does look like it has been well maintained, or at least it has that appearance. Overall though, these cars do look pretty good.

Might be wrong but I really do think the Aussie market is an anomaly for sure.
As always it is a numbers game,  and for sure the fact that roughly 1/4 of all 6.9's "officially" made it to the US simply makes them not worth as much here in NA.  Plus as I have said before, even though you guys have the Holden fans and such Down under, it is a small fraction of the obsessiveness the Yanks have with their Detroit muscle, even though Detroit is dead and buried nowadays.  Baby boomers remembering the good ol' days in the US is driving the market for US steel they saw on the roads when they were kids.  Simple math really.  Not many Benzo's on US roads back then, you had to "buy American", remember 8) otherwise you were a communist ;D  Ring a bell with the new boss in the US :o..?

Hi Nathan

That Silver blue one with velour interior is the one I sold last January to a chap from Mt Eliza,
The funny thing is I originally bought it from another seller from Mt Eliza.

I,m not certain but I think it had more kms on it when I sold it.  I normally keep spotless records on any car I buy.

this one slipped through.

These sheepskins like awesome with the parchment interior. I need to get myself some. Guess that's Australia is the best place to get them?

Not this one again Daniel!
prices have definitely risen in Aus lately, but don't think we are the anomaly. UK, Europe and Au all command good prices.  I think the tide is turning in that its getting pretty hard to find good 6.9s anymore.  I wouldn't suggest Americans are more passionate about their own products, you should see what (I perceive) crap Aussies pay big money for - but thats sentiment as you say! If you think 230 6.9s made it to Au for a population of about 20 million, (I don't know the US figure?) if 4000 or so made it to the US for a population of about 300million the per capita ratio isn't too different.  There seems to have been some expensive ones in the US on other forums lately too - perhaps a US colleague would like to start the 6.9s for sale in the US to keep tabs on prices?! anyway, I don't see it as a bad thing as someone that owns a few but we will see what the market holds for the future.

The check valve is standard on at least Aus spec.   it dampens the enthusiasm of advancing the timing to meet emission controls. :-\

thank you very much, i have a habit of looking in that area of engine bays to see if the aav is depressed or not, i had never seen a check valve there before.

$54990 1979 156,000km in QLD.  this dealer seems to have a lot of tidy mercs over time.  euro import around time of purchase it seems. again, another low km high price car. the rubbish ones not making the advertising it seems

Not bad,

That pretty much confirms it as the low km original type of car attracting the higher price.
I think the ones in poor condition would be mostly off the road by now and languishing in peoples yards etc., as seems to happen.

I reckon we might see these sorts of prices becoming the norm, assuming these cars actually sell, as they are definitely on the upward trend.
