It's not so much the quality of the steel as such, but the carbon content among other properties. The steel would have been chosen for the particular area of the body. I think it is more that rust preventative measures were less than ideal at the time, and thus applies to many makes and models too.

I note this blue 6.9 has popped up on carsales (what happened to carpoint by the way, carsales sucks).
I think it was for sale a year or two ago and did not sell but im not at home to check.
nice looking original car interesting he asks 50k for a 350k/200mile car.  like the colour and leather probably done a little while ago.
good on them for putting up plenty of pics

Interesting that the VIN is 5610 -  year 1979 and the chassis is 43 built in 1975.  I would love to know the story behind that.  Must have sat in the factory somewhere for 4 years.

Hi Rumb,

Where are you getting the 1975 from? This looks like a later car to me.

Stranger things have happened though, as my blue 6.9 is a July 76 build and was sold sometime around 1980, and has an Aus compliance date of 1-78 and has a USA 1977 engine from the factory according to the data card.

I like this blue car though... although it’s a lot of money it appears to be a good example.

Didn't they reset the chassis number every year (not the vin but the one on the options tag)?

Production   World   North America
1975   474   0
1976   1475   0
1977   1798   462
1978   1665   437
1979   1839   576
1980   129   317
1981   4   0
Total   7380   1816

chassis 43 would have been made the first year.  (on the radiator support tag)
VIN 5610, just add up # made each year to see where it falls.

Chassis and VIN numbers are usually fairly close to the same, but I think it would be very rare if the same.
