Title: Armored 350SE on eBay
Post by: Harv on 02 November 2018, 07:23 PM
I've look at all 100 photos and this car looks really strange to me. Underbody looks totally stock.

Too bad they didn't roll any windows down, to see the thickness of the glass. You'd have to tap on the under carriage to to if that floor is solid or hollow. The car is in rough shape for 60k miles. I wounder whats inside those doors too.

A cool find no doubt, 13k is very steep in price for the condition.

I don't think windows in armored cars roll down, as they are fixed in place.

Normally only the front windows roll down.  Rear are fixed and factory armored MBs ("Guard") are sunroof delete cars.  Last time I checked, MB armouring levels were B4 and B6/7.  MB has been in the vehicle armouring business since the late 1920s.

You'd think that anyone shelling out massive cash for armour would spend a few bucks on fancy options, a bigger engine, or an SEL with a proper rear seat. This car is almost as povo as a base model 280S. Was the target the owner, AKA the driver, and thus no SEL, or would an SEL be less nimble making an escape? If so, why not a 450 or a 6.9? I don't see the logic here.

photo #27. right door has 2 door straps, drivers door 1.  Interesting delete plate for ashtray that still has cigar lighter.
#35 back door has 2 door straps.
#44 show weight of 2400kg, normal is 1675kg.  Tires say load rating 650kg, so I guess you cant carry any passengers?

Option code 992 " FOR FURTHER NON-CODED SPECIAL VERSIONS, SEE PRODUCTION ORDER I"

rear SLS has been mostly removed.

Neither front or rear door panels have window controls.

Advert says 60,000 miles, but NY inspection sticker on window says 173,319

I suppose it is a standard engine and given that weight its not going to make any quick getaways and what about the mpg.

See, this one makes sense. I strongly feel that the car at hand has an unclear past.

This thread is starting to get too dangerous. I hadn't realized that armored w116 could be found reasonably well.

Well, if you do, I may be convinced to sell off my NOS armoured-W116-car jack. Might be the last one..
