If the car was previously registered in WA the details will still be on record.

Yeah Tim, the rego papers and the tag numbers match, but the stamped vin on the firewall and log books dont match anything they have on record.

Well someone has pulled a shifty along the line to get this UK import Aus plate complianced.  :-\ The VIN plate isn't even riveted on straight. She sure is a later V8 however.
With that you sparked my interest so investigated it more and yep the rego, id tags all belonged to another merc, the 280 obviously. So the plates have been removed along with the tags. Good news is that it's not stolen or a right off so can be re-registered. The bad news is Ill need to lift it somewhat, more so the front end and fix a few small things to hopefully get it back on the road. Just weighing up whether I want to do this or just move it on.
Can anyone tell me if any parts are interchangeable with other W116 such as springs?

Good news,

The springs you'll need to remove from another 450SE, it won't matter what year, but for the rears you will need to factor in whether you have self leveling or not.

I'd be getting used springs, standard ride height and swap them in. Special spring compressors are a required. A few people (myself included) have them (the compressors) here in Perth, likewise the press required for ball joint installation. If you need to do this for rego just bring the steering knuckles (removed from car, minus all other hardware) over to my place and I can press them in in a few mins.

Also, you will need to factor in replacing the timing chain and Oiler fittings for the engine prior to driving the car as they are almost always on the verge of catastrophic failure on these V8s.

Cheers Tim, I will keep you in mind when I am ready to get this underway. For now, Ill just source some parts and go from there.

@insayne05
nice to read your datacard. I can see the code of your doorkey so I can reproduce your key
now and visit you to drive away your car without needing to break in.
Would you be so kind to let me know your adress?

you got it?

regards,
Thomas

Well, key number alone won't get you the key. To order a new key at MB you must show proof of ownership - and they do check it, and make a copy for their own records.

But yeah, best always to redact the key number in the data card.

yes, but not only MB knows how to create a suitable key based on the keycode on the datacard.......
