Accidental 280SE

Hi everyone,
A few days ago while I was in the pursuit of a good coffee I came across a chap who overheard me talking about one of my 6.9's. Apparently he had a 1979 W116 280SE and had had no luck in selling it during the past 12 months. I really had no desire for an extra car but by chance my younger sons lady's car had just the day earlier developed a major engine problem that would have cost more to repair than it was worth. This certainly was fate, It so happened that this car had been parked in the garage behind the coffee shop that I had been frequenting for the past year. On inspection I found and absolutely original straight rust free Light blue car with dark blue velour interior. It had new battery, new brakes, new radiator and full air con. reconditioning just 4 month ago. It came with original wheels and matching hubcaps and a set of genuine alloys x5. The reg. had expired in April . Without further delay I negotiated a deal that now has the car parked in the front yard of a very happy lady.

Phew!! Good find.  It's a different story to what the thread title suggested and what I expected.

It's amazing but there must be still a few pristine 116's hiding around with owners that probably don't know what a w116 is.  I should know, I was one of them.  Although the pristine bit isn't quite accurate.

Hi Guys,
Just to follow up on the recent purchase 280SE. Got it re registered today, new plates
insurance etc. Full service,  full tank of Mobile 8000, wash and wax. The whole deal cost less than a replacement water pump on a 6.9? Now thats bargain buying at its best. I love 116's
