A few recent W116 picks from Hemmings

There's a lot of interesting stuff on Hemmings.  Not at all the rarified and perfectly documented examples on BAT, etc.  Shall we take a look?

Here's an odd one. Anybody ever see seats like this?  I actually kind of like them.

And then there's this one sitting in a used car lot in Salt Lake, asking real $$$ for rusted body, bad paint and virtually no meaningful info or pix.  Huh.

How about this gangster 450SEL in Texas?  Nice

Here's a very nice 450SEL.  Love the color combo and interior.

And a more informative listing for another nice 450SEL.

Finally, this one takes the cake.  Certainly a new sales record!

Enjoy!

Why does that speedo only go to 85mph on that 6.9? In the last link?

That brown one is mental, looks magnificent.  I wonder if those are the original 40 year old xwx's! Even with its ridiculously low km's, a US 6.9 is a much tougher sell than a euro.  what a colour though.

The last one shows only 245 miles. That is prob why $$$, but he is still way high.

The green euro is lovely.

Nice car, but LOTS of small issues. I wonder if previous buyer got it home and the sheer number of items needing attention got to him.

I also wonder if he paid the Dean Lumbaugh name premium and wont get that back. Dean spent 5 or 6 years building this I wonder if he just got tired of trying to finish the car and just finally gave up. Not his finest work. Prior to listing on BAT, Dean said the car would be the finest 6.9 to hit BAT.

I predict the car sells for less than he paid . It would take another 10k to address everything.

Yup I think Dean Laumbach on BAT is for sure coasting on his name.  He does have some nice cars but you can tell that he now has "untouchable" status on BAT and that is never good.

Wow. Interesting.  Pretty far from finest car to hit BAT.  To be sure, bumpers are ridiculous.  Wood isn't good either and there's that weird and inexplicable color upholstery.  Then nonworking locks, sunroof and busted radio.  Oh yeah, lousy pad under hood, tired carpet and sloppy trunk.  Are you seeing more?  Cheers,

Looking closer at the previous auction for this car, the new owner appears to have redyed the entire interior black. At least they got rid of that huge odd factor.

Would love to hear more so I can go check my car to see what needs some work LOL :)

Thanks for sharing the links all! The Silver 6.9 with the Recaros is a pretty nice basis for a project. I love those seats!

Eyeman

Thanks for the links, they are fun.

By Recaros you mean the red and black seats?  My 6.9 actually has Recaros (it was one of those Florida white converted Mercedes you'd see back in the 80s).

I figured out how to add some photos of my weird seats and car.  It does not look like this anymore, except the seats.
