Title: #6045
Post by: Des on 15 January 2007, 02:19 AM
Well I have a story to tell, today was in at my mechanic and what did I see? Another 6.9 in the flesh!
It was number #6045, 1979, thistle green, just like mine with bamboo interior, Tasmanian plated car but had a NSW Mercedes Car Club sticker on the windscreen. Looked in pretty good condition, the paintwork seems slightly darker than mine, although could have been the overcast day, only noticed one very small ding in the back passengers door, no rust, nice clean car with good interior.

So I am pleased there is at least another 1 here in Tasmania, I knew there had to be, surely a handful would have been sold here brand new.

I will ask my mechanic to give the owner my mobile number if he wants to catch up for a chat.

:) Des, I'm happy for you.  I saw your other post on the club forum that wasn't getting a response.  Are you saying this is now a Tassie car but was a NSW car? Do you think it's newly acquired or they're a member of the NSW club but the car's been in Tassie for a while?  I suppose time will tell and you'll cross paths personally very soon.  Good to hear!!

Yeah it has fairly new tassie plates on the car, probably registered here within the last 2 years, the mechanic told me the current owner bought it for close to $25k so should be a really nice example.

It is fairly common to see main land luxury cars for sale here, even in car yards with the mainland plates still on them, Mercs, Beamers, as they are so much cheaper by several thousand dollars compared to the local prices, that's because cars here are generally with much lower mileage than mainland examples, I mean it is not uncommon to see good examples of 20-30 year old cars here with 120,000-180,000k's on them

Tasmania is such a small place, sure there had to be a few lurking around and nice to finally spot one, about 18 months ago when I first started looking for a 6.9, well even considering getting one I saw a metallic golden one on ebay in Launceston for sale, it was I think $6,500 but had a lot of rust around the doors and rust bubbles on the boot. Something like that would have needed a full respray and that's big money if it is done right.

hi Des,
again dont ask why i know this...
WK0138 or #6045 was selling through the old timer centre in 2004 for 29 grand...
had 152k's on it at the time, 3 owners
for that price it must have been pretty special!
best regards

Thanks for that Nathan, you must be keeping tabs on every 6.9 in the country like me
i am collecting pictures, vin numbers etc..
have over 100 6.9 collated.

as for the oldtimer center their prices seem quite inflated.

mine was originally advertised at $17k, then I got it when it was down to $13k

I only keep vin number and pictures
have a folder on my computer when i create a sub folder with the vin number then put all the pictures in there.

didn't really think it was important to keep anything else.

Nathan, I found the car using the www.archive.org tool, it enables you to bring back websites from various points in time:
