Yes, I too hate the screaming, hand waving reviews. An interesting take on the 6.9 and W116 in general. The guy seemed impressively knowlegable on all the older Benz's in fact. Nice find.
Agreed, nice review. Id like to do a longer one on ours but never get around to buying a drone which I think would get some nice shots! Interesting that car doesnt have the sunroof, here in our area they all had them. What about the UK PT?

If the UK imports into Ireland I'm familiar with are indicative of the entire rolling stock there, I'd say it's not a common sight.
We need all the sun we can get :D
This was an enjoyable review and, as said, without the drama or shouting. That car looked in really good condition, and I loved the interior.

Brings to mind 6.9 values in general. I checked out Bring a Trailer the other day, been a long time since they had a 116 on there and even longer for a 6.9. Always wonder how many decent ones are left. Surely we are way under 100 globally at this point...

I think there's many more than a 100 left too. Stats from around a few countries in Europe easily make up that number.
The UK alone has 25 on the road (licensed) and further 47 declared off-road. I know of three in Ireland, and a fourth one that was recently re-exported to the UK.
As of 2020, Germany had a total of 9474 W116 and W126 on the road, so even if half a percent of that is 6.9s, that's another 47 cars.
Indeed, however I meant nice ones as in everything works : good body/paint/interior/mechanical and ready to turn the key and take 1k mile+ journey without worries. Not ones sitting sunk into the mud covered in crow poop waiting for a date with the crusher ;D

in seriousness, I have kept records on those in Australia for the last 20 years. Its been around the 300 number here (227 brought here officially in the late 70s).
So a few grey market cars made there way here.
The change in car climate has meant those still around are now getting money spent on them. Buying a crappy one is not really feasible anymore. We sold a reasonable mechanical but shabby body one for 5 figures (AU) a couple of months ago as it languished in our shed for a few years and we probably wouldnt get around to it.
The old adage on this forum, the US market is the aberation on prices now, being lower than everywhere else.
anyway, good they garner a bit more respect nowadays! i went to a cars and coffee for the first time in a while and got quite a few positive comments as i crawled out of there in my silver 6.9
The halo cars of any model always survive better to classic/collectible status than the regular models - in Mk1 Golfs (Rabbit in US), less than 10% of all new Mk1s were GTIs, but it was an iconic car, and the vast majority of survivors are the GTIs, with almost all of the 1.1/1.3/1.6 cars long gone.
I'd say the 6.9's survival rate is proportionally much higher than the 280/350/450 models.
