Time has come to start a thread for our 6.9 want to get started on the resto and will surely need some help along the way!

Currently sat in my barn on its arse! think its like number 096 so quite early, needs near enough everything doing! Not ran in roughly 20years i think. 78k kms on the clock

Its nearly complete  ;D .. someone's run off with alternator, few other bits that look very similar to parts i can find on a 280 parts car we have and someone's chopped the vacuum lines off from the fire wall. Difficult to find photos or documents of what should be where or go where, if anyone could help out on that..?

Oh yeah and the engine is locked! Bottom end is good, i think, i hope, moves a bit but the right side cam is what's locking it i think, breather pipe had been left off the rocker cover..

Money pit? Maybe but it'll run one day!

Try and get some photos up soon ;)

That's a big 10-4 on the money toilet front ;D low miles though so might not be that bad. Take your time and tackle one system or component at a time otherwise it will quickly  become overwhelming.
This is a great forum with lots of help so you are in good hands  8)

I'm subscribing! Restoration/repair threads are my favourite here.

This place has probably the highest concentration of caring, expert 6.9 owners than any other site I've seen.
Keep us posted, and please add pics :)

Blue (904?) colour with black leather seats, one of my favorite colour combinations. Good luck with the resto, are you doing all the work by yourself?

Im not to fussed about body work on this just want the mechanics to be sorted! Thats a big enough ask i think.
After looking closer at the engine. The bottom end is free all cylinders move up and down, not alot yet but they move until the slack has been taken up in the chain.
So the cams are both locked, just had the one off it frees up nice but the surface is to pitted i think I'll need to find 2 replacements as the other sides the same.
So far the rust on the followers just wipes off. Only damage is the cams!
Heres some photos.

Can low-miles cars have such badly worn cams?

Very much so - if they're not driven much, and the car is stored in less than optimal conditions (i.e. warm + dry).
My 350 had 112k miles on the clock, and after a year of not being powered up, this is how its cams looked like:

(they're for sale BTW, if anybody is interested at all)

Yeah low miles is often bad news if its been getting used.
The cam are worn here due to rust! Looked like this before

How hard are they to come by new or used? Same as the 3-5 cams or not? Dont think these are good for anything any more or am i wrong? - that would be nice
