one of those things ive been meaning to do for a while. i pivot tabled the registry of 6.9s ive been keeping over the last decade plus. the locations represent the last known location, although im happy to concede this may be incorrect for a number of cars. thus, as it stands,
Total
ACT 5
NSW 54
NT 2
QLD 44
SA 16
TAS 4
VIC 53
WA 29
unknown 8
Grand Total 215

Ive seen 2 tas registered 6.9s. a real beaten up metallic pale green one and a real tidy magnetic blue one with blue velour interior, that makes half of TAS!
Jeez they're bloody everywhere!!!! LOL! So how does that # compare to the official # of Aussie delivered cars? Maybe 1/3 left?? I wonder how that compares to XY GTs?
BTW Nathan that means you have nearly 14% of the cars in WA and I have nearly 10% of the ones here!!!! Shhhhhhh!!!
.
Os, haha. I never thought of it like that!
Remember that 227 were officially imported.
The log includes some wrecked, unregistered cars so not all are roadworthy.
Help a Yank understand....you have a national, public registry?
Hi Nathan i know you have goldie2 listed as a write off . And my silver car was sold new in Sydney to Allens lollies at Zetland. I bought her in Canberra in January 2000 if that helps your list i am the 3rd owner 2nd was a K.Murphy who now lives in Perth . Geoff :)
Any idea of the most popular colour in Australia Nathan?
Thanks guys. Cheers Geoff, think I have your details but will add.
Jason, a bunch of us just keep an eye on the, and add them as we go. Not hard to follow the right hand drive cars as much less common than lhd.
Foss, I should bramble to check colours, I'll get onto it!
WOW that's damn good record keeping (215/227 is 95%)!! But Nathan how many are grey imports from Europe?? MT I wasn't taking the piss re the XY and yes I really wish I had one! I just have a feeling the retention rate of the 6.9s is far higher than many other rare cars.....
Gents,
this is the colours as i have recorded for the aussie 6.9s logged. i have more individual colour descriptions but for this purpose have lumped them together. a few random colours are in there which are not likely part of mercedes colour schemes. and as a colour blind twit, i rely on the authors descriptions from car advertising sales sites at times.
it seems the turds were quite popular!! interestingly that white is not that popular, compared to what i imagine today?
Blue 62
silver 36
green 29
gold 20
brown 21
red 11
White 10
bronze 3
Grey 1
192
I'm quite surprised at how many blue ones there are.
Nice work Nathan. 8)
Tim
.
i know what blue is, its the same as purple. so stick it! nah, i have them recorded as all sorts, magnetite blue, zircon blue, metallic blue, petrol blue...i just put them all together here.
as for euros, this is where it gets wacky. unless otherwise stated, i can only tell if its euro by the oel cooler in the engine bay pics (if the pic includes this area).
thus, for the cars i can tell (ie specified or engine shot), i have
australian cars 56
euro imports 38
this though i feel is in favour of the euro cars as most people wouldnt bother stating if its genuine australian.
the earliest australian VIN is TJs car at #1432, but this is yet to be verified as Tim is a lazy bastard (just bloody well email MB Australian for damns sakes!)
however, after this, we dont see an australian car until VIN 4620 which is Styrias car. There are 30 cars above this that i have the VIN recorded so one could assume these are all euros.
also interesting is that the last VIN in australia is#7114, this is quite damn late out of 7280. further, the last engine number is #7237 which is very very late!
remember, if you ever get details on 6.9s or see one in a shopping car park, please take a pic and email me!!
nathan

Hi Nathan I take it are referring to the car Styria sold ChrisP as I have it on good authority that GB is a import from a African Nation . Geoff
Howdy Geoff,
i emailed Styria on an old email to ask this. i thought GB was an aussie. i believe styria had #460 which was sold to Chris P here in WA but havent heard from him in a while. he had some issues last i spoke with him and the car was off the road.
MT, TJs car is wacky. the VIN is by far the lowest aussie one. but its odd in its spec, year and VIN. i would just email MB Australia and ask if they have records of this car. surprisingly they can sometimes be helpful and they were the ones who searched to find out 227 were officially imported. they might even have pics lying around, who knows!! as for a badge, ive got on of those on my gwagen. it says 500ge. sure it has a 5 litre, but its not a w463 limited 500ge!
Hi Nathan found the post on other forum from Styria stating that GB was originally white and delivered new in Kenya I will cut and paste it to you in PM if you want when I get near computer doing this on my phone. Geoff
Geeze you blokes dont muck about! :-)
One day I'll get in contact with MB Australia about my car's history. Now that you've reminded me Nathan, I'll see what I can organize.
The European Delivery Program Badge was always on the car.
Tim
.
I don't know about problematic but I do know WGB offered his help. Don't know if it was accepted though. Geoff
.
Cant be too hard to find an Astral silver 6.9 in Perth can it?
Nathan?
.
Hi Tony you just asked about half the WA 6.9 population i know off at least 6 in Perth with that combination.Geoff :)
Cheers Nathan I thought blue would be the most popular, I've seen about 7 or 8 here in Vic. The same colour as mine.
Nathan, just to help you with the log... My cars are all Aussie delivered unless specified:
1979 6.9 #6301 (light blue) - Euro,
1979 6.9 #5541 (red),
1979 6.9 #5318 (silver),
1979 6.9 #5298 (light blue),
1978 6.9 #4248 (light blue),
1980 6.9 #7281 (black AMG) - Euro.
WHOA WHOA WHOA were did the black euro come from and why do you now have 6 6.9 Mark some explaining appears to be inorder. Geoff :)
Quite impressive numbers. Certainly the climate and the price of fuel is helping cars survive longer in Aus.
Not counting 6.9s I've seen just in car magazines, I am aware of just 3 other people who have them. Mirafioriman, Pal and the fellow who sold me my 450SEL parts car. A few months ago I saw a blue one in very average condition near my place of work but it's not been back since. I would estimate that the number of running 6.9s in UK is under 100.
Hi Mark still waiting for an answer on the black euro. Geoff :)
LOL You bought ANOTHER ONE!
So Cmon spill!
Hi Mark I will keep prompting please explain about the black euro. Geoff :)
Hahaha!!! Had you going there didn't I Geoff??? I couldn't resist adding a fictitious car at the end! Notice the VIN? It's 1 after the last one that was produced and I was testing Nathan to see if he'd pick it up..... A black AMG 6.9 would be a dream, so what better car to use as a furphy?? Sorry if I was being cruel!!! ;) BTW I am looking at another, but it's white and it's only for parts....
Haha indeed. The sad thing is I did pick up on the vin aberration but the downside to being a public service medic is u get flogged and not enough time to check Internet. This is hy most of my posts read so badly as thy are done on mobile devices whilst I'm walking between wards!
Nathan
Ps Ithat was a good one though!

I just hope Geoff forgives me!!! ;)
Time for an update to the log / register??
a new winner, asking $135000! cough.
located in Victoria, a nice looking car. but for any 6.9 over 40k, I dont expect to see a shiny steering wheel!
everything else looks quite tidy for this Australian car.
It looks great, but yes I don't think I've ever seen a 116 wheel that shiny before!
Tim
maybe they had it buffed ;D
Maybe Lindsay will buy it now? Rumours are he offered the owner a blank cheque for it years ago..
Nathan did you add those pix to the wrong thread? I revived this one since I was curious about Aussie numbers. Interesting that I saw a black 6.9 years ago in Puckapunyal, Victoria. However it wasn't originally black, so where do you add that on the list? I'm still looking for the pix in my archives...
argh, damnit it. thanks for the pickup OS. why did you rebirth this thread! ha ha, ill put it in the correct one - Aussie 6.9s for sale
