I see it does have the suspension pull-knob on the dash, so it must be a 6.9.  Unusual.

yes its an 6.9 the ad says that the car got his hearse conversion in italy by pilato in 1976 and the car still got all the 6.9 technique , and its got minor rust and a few scratches and the airco is out of order and the drivers seat has a verry small damage and another litlle things that must be done on the car like doorlocks and something with the electric windows and something with the powersteering and further bla bla bla about how good the condition is of the car , and that the guy owns two of these similair W116's
and his wife have said one of the cars must go !

I guess the suspension would be a benefit in a hearse but 550nm of torque ?

that engine would of spent most of its life just ticking over hardly doing anything.

Wow, not something you'd expect given the price difference of a new 6.9 and other models.  At the very least you'd think someone might drop a 6.9's running gear and powerplant in at a later date, not so much convert a new 6.9.   Then again, I suppose there were a few Rolls conversions which cost the same, why not a 6.9.

I wonder what his other hearse is.  Seeing it reminded me of one I posted ages ago that was in a music video but checking it again, different car I believe, different registration plate and detail parts like grab handles.  Not a crisp vid but still cool to watch as the car gets thrown around later in the clip. They're odd cars hearses.  If you had the space and collected w116s it'd be cool to have one, even better a 6.9.  Park it next to the 6.9 Crayford, armoured cars, police car and ambulance.   The W116 deserves it's own museum

I can see advantages in smooth dignified power delivery if, say, between the church and the the cemetary was a very mountainous terrain a 6cyl or manual 6cyl hearse would need lots of rowing with the gearshift... a 6.9 could all just take it in its stride and make it look like it wasn't struggling.

If a 6cyl were constantly kicking down the overall effect from onlookers would be that they were in somewhat of a hurry to get the deceased to the cemetary.

Man that's an ugly car, I'd like to see some verification by way of some pics that it's a 6.9, still I suppose a German should know what he's looking at. Seems an awful waste for a vehicle that's gonna spend most of it's life at idle speed or just above.

Well if I am to be a ton by the time I die I have to get to work gaining that 1874 lbs. Hell, thats only 30 pounds gained every year if I live another 60...

.... just bought a W114 Ambulance/Hearse thing, thinking this is the cat's whiskers ( holidays, work etc ), and there was me thinking, if only this was a W116 ............. and, I've always wanted to maybe own a 6.9


That thing is pig ugly though.
