Hey folks,
So, I've decided the biggest reason I don't like my blue 6.9 isn't the surface rust, or peeling paint, or badly modified front driver's seat, or suspension adjustment level tuning that's needed...
It's the wheels. It's the plain jane wheels that almost all 6.9's have, that look vaguely similar to artillery wheels (I don't know the name of them). I don't want Penta's, since my other car has that, which raises a question:
Anybody with a 6.9 have aftermarket wheels on it? I'd love to see photos. I had a couple manu's tell me they won't put their wheels on 6.9's due to the weight difference between that and a regular 450sel/450se.
A quick search on this forum will give you dozens of threads with good data. Nothing much has changed in the last 20 years on that front.

I had searched, but my results seemed to cover all W116's, and I was hoping to find aftermarket wheels people had confirmed they could run without issues. I'll give searching another shot, maybe I was too general in my query.
Your suggestion that weight makes 6.9 wheels different seems off to me. I looked it up, looks like 6.9s weigh around 400 lbs or 10% more, and I didn't even bother to look up diesels. So I'd think any wheels would be fine. Lorinser made plenty of choices.
I don't see why it being a 6.9 alters what wheels it will take.
6.9's have the same wheels as 350/450 SE(L)'s (Same part numbers). Only 280's have different wheels, because it has 6j wheels instead of the 6.5j of the v8's. So if the aftermarket wheels is suited for the v8's it should be suited for the 6.9.
I didn't think that was true, I was under the impression that the 6.9 had wheels that were .5 of an inch wider than the regular bundts.
Its funny, mine has some strange wire wheels... I wish that it had the old bundts.
