300SD spotted in London

I was in London on Sunday. Saw the Korean arts festival in Trafalgar square, saw the 25th anniversary of the Falklands campaign flypast (shame that the Vulcan was not fixed up in time for the flypast), got a good run in Battersea Park AND, most importantly, saw an arctic white W116 300SD parked near Pall Mall.

Not many 300SDs around here. This was an unconverted LHD one with American bumpers and lights. Needed a clean but appeared rust free. I would've put a note under a wiper asking the owner to sell it to me but didn't have paper or pen handy.

I wonder how many more 300SDs have escaped from the USA?

Make yourself a Benz "calling card" and leave one wedged in the driver's door window.  Mine has won me many new acquaintances and offers of good deals. If you design your own, it should cost only a few cents each to have them printed.

I think to find an SD in a RHD country is quite a rare thing.

Now now, Chaps, we all know that diesels only belong in tractors..... (he says politely, ducking under the desk for cover)
"You've bought another bloody car?!? We should have you committed!" he shrieked, storming out of the room

As far as I know, there were only LHD SD's made. I guess I didn't make the point properly: Why would someone want to export a LHD 300SD to a RHD market? I would have thought that no-one would do it, so to find one in a RHD market is rare!!

The car in question was clearly an import from a rust free place. It had that worn look which in the British climate would soon leave it covered in rust spots.

The diesel interest comes from relative fuel economy. Heck, why would you want a tractor if it's less efficient than a potent quiet petrol motor!
