I can only imagine how a turbocharged one would go.....

I'd imagine it'd go very nice... ;D
'79 280SEL- 560,000 Kms
'73 350SE- getting an AMG facelift

Given their willingness to rev, I would imagine a turbocharged one would go very well. I'm sure they are a very strong motor which helps the case even more.

The only downer would be the low shift points of the auto. They would need to be increased, especially on wide open throttle to get the most out of the turbo motor.

Should be plenty of V8 diffs around with more suitable ratios.

i find the M110 performance better than a 350SE and the horsepower difference is almost nothing the M110 is more agressive
i drive verry often fast with my 280SE sometimes top speed about 205 (on the speedo ) and i like the looks of the people when i passed them on the highway i have about 400.000 km on the car but it had a total revision by the mercedes benz dealer at 350.000km engine and gearbox , so its no problem that i sometimes torture him a bit , even today the performance of W116 is still good it has no problem for the today's traffic , but imagine how it was back in the early 70's when you have a W116 , yes really the best car in the world in 1972  8)
