A member of our club here has just purchased a 1979 6.9 that has 27k miles from new, and is totally unmarked.  It is a RHD car that was until recently in the UK, where it has been stored for 30 years in a climate controlled facility.  It is original in every respect.  Zypressen green, parchment interior.  I am reasonably well acquainted with the new owner, and although he lives 1500km from me, I hope to visit the car in the near future to photo document it - correct colouring and finish of all brackets, bolts etc, and location of engine bay stickers, you name it, I want to see it.

Long way to drive, but should be a fantastic reference. Let's hope it is as good as it sounds.

Great find! I am excited to see the pictures and learn of the finer points of an original W116, especially the 6.9

I must say that the enthusiasm for these cars seems to me as unmatched on any other MB board that I visit. There is a real passion here.

This car sounds like a keeper ;D

I don't think I could own such a car.  I'd be a nervous wreck trying to keep it pristine.
