I think they did make a few 6.9s in 1981, and they were required to have an airbag. Wow, only 1,828 kilometers. This one seems like a fine example. Check out the stainless steel coverings over the sill plates, and it appears to have aftermarket seat heater switches (round instead of square).

You'd think that with so few miles on it that they wouldn't have compromised the car by putting cheap hose clamps on the hoses in the engine bay....or using cable ties to hold the high tension leads together instead of buying the correct holders that snap to the tops of the tappet coverings....or the late style W126 air filter housing.  I mean....it's really hard to fault the car given it's mileage, but at the same time the imperfections are at least easily corrected.  I wonder why they drilled holes in the alternator?  For cooling, I presume, but did they really get that hot?  Very interesting car!  :)

Aren't there filters on this website for porn like this? 8)

the VIN is 4068, so how could it be a 1981?  that would make it a 1978 model?

What is the extra strip screwed on the fan shroud?

If that's an 1800km car, then I've been on the Moon. Twice. Before breakfast this morning.

Is it possible Sotheby's would sell this if the mileage wasn't real, or the VIN incorrect?
Could have been a showroom car, literally bought in 1978 to show off the AMG kit to clients, and they never intended to sell it until 1981?

On the other hand, the front armrest look like it's been used quite a bit.  I think I see the glove compartment door off-camber. More so, I would expect a lot more specific pics, not just glossy eye-catchers. That's a bit dodgy. Quite a few scratches in the dashwood for a no miles car. Rear luggage nets have been well used. Ignition key chrome rosette is scratched quite heavily. Is that a crack in the plastic right underneath the odometer? (From changing out odometers?) The brake pedal has lost profile in one corner.

It seems to have a W126 coolant tank too, unless the 6.9 had one with a level sensor.
I can't see the blue ATE sticker in its usual position on the brake booster - hints at it being replaced/repainted?
Electric mirrors, in a W116, with a R107 switch?
The seats are almost certainly rebuilt - there's no perforations in the leather.

What is going on with the oil cooler? It isn't connected on the side of the radiator and it looks there isn't even space for it. Is that a different radiator?
