damn your timing is good haha

posted up on ozbenz, a forum basically run by MB Spares, an excellent parts company in Canberra.

learned that the clutch kit that i have is for a W123, but should work if the parts are from the same clutch kit (mainly just the throwout bearing has to match). havent received a reply regarding that, as i included parts numbers..might trawl though the Sachs site and see.

the admin on ozbenz also informed me that i should be bleeding using the 'outdated' method, of going through the brake caliper..but also another member said that going from the clutch also works, but there seems to be a slight dissimilarity in the method...gonna try and clear that up

im heading home for the weekend later today, so hopefully ill give these methods a go!

the thread i hijacked

Can your original supplier get these cheaply for you considering they stuffed it up in the first place?

so. after A LOT of stuffing around, i got some useful info out of the people i got my first clutch off. theyre having a crapload of difficulty getting the parts, (which werent listed in the Merc catalogue) apparently only one place in australia stocks the kit....but theyre happy to refund. glad ive got some work lined up these hols, as i doubt ill get this new kit for the same price as i bought the current one...

regardless, things are happening!

I concur! my favourite thread in quite a while! Instead of many of us usual tinkerers a newbie goes full pelt into something, while studying for a proffesion at the same time. thats passion for you!

Obviously youth means you're not scared to get your hands dirty and try new techniques to get the job done!  Any updates?

It is important that you understand how symbolic your struggle with this car is.  I am sure I am not alone in wishing you forward on this...  the Mercedes automobile is difficult at best; but when well-sorted is a truly rewarding experience.  Not for the faint of heart.

Make that car run!

thanks man! though my motivation waxes and wanes i am still quite determined to get the old girl going..even if it takes a fair while. beautiful pic :D

i just read through LosCreepers' thread again, and im starting to think the master might need replacing. will wait til the new kit is on to say for sure....but last time i looked at the benz it had a puddle in the drivers side footwell. didnt have a chance to find where it eminated from, but it was brown, and had formed a skin on top :o intuitively i woulda thought its not the master leaking, as the fluid is all new, and wouldnt be a goopy dark brown. but hey. at least i know why the interior is so disgusting :P

so German Star in reservoir can suck a fat one. ordered the kit with them, they say no problem! i expect it to take a while, so today (roughly 6 weeks later) i can em for an update, and possible eta. they say, nah its too hard.
FFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK   YYYYYYOOOOOOOUUUUUU!!!!!!!! way to waste my time you arseholes. guess ill hafta go with MB Spares after all that. even though its gonna be like $8-900 D: and another 6 weeks wait. by that time ill have finished (or close to finished) uni for the year. good grief.

I've dealt with them before on a couple of occasions and had a similar experience.  They tried to sell me a filter that had an opened, damaged box which was covered in grease....  I decided it wasn't worth the risk, even though I'd travelled all up there the way to get it
