Yeah I know I had the same problem!  I wanted to reorganize, but if I did so it'd stuff up every link I ever posted!!!   >:( :(  Just post stuff in an orderly fashion from now on and accept that your early uploads were a little quirky!

errrr..couldnt tell you, all the stuff's at my parents..could guess by trawling the sachs website?

No rush mate, I wanted to ref the number back to some catalogs I have here to make sure the kit was correct was all.

UPDATE TIME!!!!

tried bleeding again, with a vacuum bleeder from Burson and an air compressor from a neighbour, which was a flop. the stuff worked, but there was a steady stream of air which implied that there was a leak somewhere between the end of the hose and the slave cylinder. or maybe somewhere else. next time im down at the parents ill be taking the slave off, doing some tests to see if that was what was leaking.

in the interim, i had a go cleaning some more of the car. havent worked up to tackling the filthy carpets yet, but cleaned up some rust   :-\
driver's footwell (literally a well >:(), before:

after:

more rust >:(

rusty driver's side sill...

interior as it is now :P

man im cr@p at taking pics

decided to take the wing off, clean up the abomination that is all the silicone 'holding it on'.

i thought it was all rubber, but it seems to have some kinda of metal frame inside. two small studs have been what held it on, and have kinda deformed it :P i thought it was meant to be that shape, cause it was symmetrical, but it looks dodge now.

6 holes in the rubber show the metal frame, maybe possible to weld more studs on/tap holes in the metal there...hmm.

filth!

clean :D

the AMG sh!te def wasnt originally on. two sets of holes in the boot.

weirdly, it was in the top set, which doesnt fit properly

the bottom holes are better

feat lemon myrtle shortbread :P

but i think it was in the top holes so you could see the rear emblem, which is from a W109
when in the bottom holes it covers half of it up

more rust :-\

dinged chrome :'(

so many things i can fix on this :P one last thing. are these for louvers??
top of rear glass

and bottom

pretty sure louvers would look tits on this.

thats all for now :D

Louver? We call it "Katzentreppe", that's means stairs for a cat  ;D
Very 80's I would say, as on this picture of a W126 with a Katzentreppe:

First aid kit: I had 3 or 4 of them from my old cars, incl. the nice scissors and the first aid manual. In Germany the TÜV (Technical control) checks every 2 years the date of expiry of the first aid kit. If it's to old you have to have a new one.  My little daughter played wit the old kits and a few month ago i discarded them  :-\ Next time I sell them on ebay Australia instead  ;)

Good luck with your clutch and the rust.

Cool louvers go on the inside.  The daggy ones go on the outside!  LOL!

Zook those air operated brake bleeders don't give a constant stream of brake fluid and give the impression there's air in the lines.  Once you can see new fluid coming through, you still need to do it manually.  And in this case I'd recommend you find an assistant for the job

yeah my dad's been helping me with the bleeding..

when we started using the vacuum kit there was only a trickle of fluid coming out. upped the pressure and it filled the hose, and initiailly there were no bubbles, but then after a while there was a fine stream of tiny ones.

the system has been full of new fluid for a while, so are you saying i should be doing it manually now? and theres no point using a vacuum kit? :-\

Pressure bleeders are funny things Zook and I find that all but the serious pro units have their drawbacks.

You may also find that you have sludge in the caliper reserve chambers.

zook

:P bloody hell. why cant things be simple?

I've found vacuum bleeders are great for cleaning the reservoirs and for pulling the new fluid through the lines.  But I've had bubbles in the clear bleed hoses every time; I really don't know why.  But to keep my mind at ease I've always completed the job by bleeding the systems manually.  I've managed to do it by myself in the past as I've had no-one to help me.

With a troublesome system having someone else to help would be far easier and more likely to have success.

BTW the most important things with one-man bleeding is to make sure your bleed hose is a tight fit over the bleeder nipple and that the hose is bent up above the nipple before down and into your bleed bottle.  Then it's just a case of cracking the nipple and pumping the pedal in short fairly sharp bursts.  I usually do it with the drivers door open and me hanging out the car looking underneath, attempting to watch the stream going into the bottle.  When I'm convinced there's no bubbles, I stop and tighten the nipple.

There's all sorts of problems you can have when bleeding and old system; probably to numerous to mention.  Blocked nipples, air getting dragged back into the system if you're not quick to close the nipples, not topping the reservior up and having to start again.  Most importantly, don't push the pedal all the way to the floor as you can damage the seals on an old master cylinder when they hit the normally unused sections of the bore.

should probably give MB Spares a ring, i was flicking through the thread, reminded me about the differences in the old and new clutch kits. i reckon it would hurt to shoot a few questions past em
