Hey Chris, its roughly $37 for the permit and probably another 30 for a few days........

You might want to read the conditions though because you cant use a car on unreg permit between 7pm and 7am and its supposed to be for transport to or from a place of repair or roadworthy so a Mechanics, LVT, panel shop or windscreen fitter......

Im not sure about your police region but I know a few in Latrobe and Bass coast region have been fined for driving on a permit and the Bairnsdale and Sale boys in blue can be fairly Enthusiastic during a blitz.....

I may have missed something but does anyone know to what further extent is an AMG tuned than a standard w116?
What components would be different?

Tony66_au

GF, AMG was essentially a "Tuner" shop so the work they did was dependant on a heap of factors.

it could have been styling and exhaust, Engine tuning or even more.

In Zooks case its a bit hard to tell whats been done

gf

So were there any other tuners for MB in the 70s? I know cosworth did jobs for mb through the 80s? Zook youll have totry to  pick out the unique bits for us if you can find them!

haha i dont really have that much AMG stuff. bodykit, spoiler and rear badge is about it. there is such a thing as an AMG M110, but that is fantastically rare. you can also get AMG steering wheels and instrument clusters, plus different ratio rear differentials, and whatever else is in the AMG section of the library. so you see why my benz an 'AMG' haha

Yes there was; a company in Brooklyn, NY (USA) called 'Brocina'.  I have one of their brochures which included 6.9 headers.  There was also 'Sbbaro'..  'AMG' started in 1967 and 'Isdera' in 1969.  'Brabus' was founded in 1977, 'Carlsson' in 1989, and 'Koenigsegg' 1994.

I think what Mark is saying is that they were a tuner shop before they made cars.........

zook

yeahh thats the logical conclusion lol but i still felt the desire to open my mouth :S

I'm not 100% on Koenigsegg, but I seem to remember a heavily modified W126...  Or was that a Ferarri???  LOL!  I'll have to check my collection of magazines

nearly got the car done today...had her running, about to drive off the ramps..but it wouldnt go into gear.

FUCK. said i. tried a couple more times, but nope. thought id have to take everything apart again..but then i realised i hadnt bled the clutch system :|

tried that, got a facefull of fluid, i suspect the bleed valve is blocked or something. shall take the slave cylinder off tomorrow and look. not happy

bled the slave cylinder through the master cylinder, all seemed fine. went back to bleeding it using the method in the Haynes manual (reverse flow using the front caliper and pumping the brake pedal) but didnt get far before i was sprayed with fluid yet again. somehow its leaking between the bleed screw and the cylinder, weird. i only loosened the screw a quarter of a turn, if that.

got a second opinion from one of dad's colleagues, haynes method is apparently ridiculously outdated...should just be pumping the clutch pedal, and bleeding out the slave cylinder, which common sense would initially dictate! was told it would take about 15-20 pumps of le pedal, and that the last bit was hardest, a pocket of air near the end of the master cylinder, which requires a lot of pressure.

so did it that way, got to somewhere between 15-20 before the pressure coming out of the end of the hose dropped, and it began leaking again. tried the clutch anyway, but no dice.

im not sure whether the hose came loose on the nipple, and needs to be refixed, or that i had the nipple in the wrong position (too tight/loose) ir something else. i had the hose tightly bound to the nipple with a small piece of wire.

disappointing weekend, but adamant it can be fixed. i did wonder whether the hydraulics are fine, and its the release arm and/or end of the slave cylinder that are misaligned. logic says thats pretty damn unlikely but even so...at least ive stopped entertaining thoughts of selling her. even if i know i could never actually go through with it :P

any opinions very much welcomed
cheers

I've had that same effect with frozen or broken clutch forks or when a clutch fork has been put in the wrong way around.

other than that stick with the hydraulics.

You didnt buy silicone brake fluid did you?  Because apart from the wank factor its mainly for aviation use and the tolerances are not good enough on cars to use it and it makes em leak like mad

zook

hmmm. the urge to take off the gearbox is growing.

as for brake fluid, im pretty sure it isnt? embarrassed to say it was repco brand DOT4

TJ 450

I bled the clutch system with a one-man brake bleeding kit directly on the slave cylinder bleed valve.

Does it go into gear without the engine running, and does it scrunch when running?

It could also be an issue with the linkages.

The Repco DOT 4 is fine.
