It seems that it's just a 560SEL by the California tag ???

A really tacky red and white "1000SEL" hit ebay several months ago...it was just a modified 560 with really cheesy white leather interior...terrible 80's mod's, made the AMG's from that era look tasteful.

I'm sorry thats crap. I think it differs only from a standard 560 in the badge. I think this is something along the lines of "bling" - its all about surface impressions - no substance.

Actually if it is a 1984, it cant be a 560. Its probably a 500SEL with a later 560 engine in it. Maybe its bored and stroket to 10 litres?. NOT.

what r the 3 buttons on the rear doors? window (obvious); elec reclining seat (probably); and....?? ....heated rear seat??

Mercedes did not make a 1000SEL but a few coach builders would customize a 500SEL and call it a 1000SEL. There is one made by Chameleon here locally in Atlanta. It has a custom dash and a huge carage clock up front and the rear seat is split by a bar and a TV set.

It looks like it should live on a Miami vice set. These sort of conversions were very popular in the 80's. I have seen other horrors like w126 and w201 cars with the 560SEC hood and light cluster and let's not forget the gull wing and testarossa body kits on the SEC's.

OK it's time to roll up the sleeves on my jacket and don the wayfarers.
