So I was watching a movie with Arnold, where he was a former Army Special Forces soldier, but now some of the terrorist cells he had disrupted while in the Army, are out to get him. OK, I wasn't paying too much attention to the 'plot' after the opening few minutes, but he ends up at LAX, and gets out of a 116, pictured below:
Long story short, what other movies have featured the w116? I know of one other American movie which takes place in Europe, with Robert Deniro, in which w116's (a bunch of them), chase Deniro and his group, who are driving an s420 or some other mid-90's s-class through the narrow and winding streets of Italy. Deniro's group are after a suitcase. That's about all I remember.
Arnies got class eh? :D :)
Well i cant think of any movies right at the moment, but I'm sure the other guys can cos I think there was a similar thread way back.
But for any freaks like me that just have to watch "Home and Away" (i'm not sure how many other countries get this show) to see what happens next, (yes thats the reason... ;)) I saw a blue w116 in an episode not long ago, being driven by a drug dealer, who mysteriously dropped off his package, then drove off down the road. :D
The one with Robert De Niro's group after a case is called "RONIN", its a 6.9, A bond movie that has a 116 in it is "for your eyes only" (its not for the squeamish, the meets an untimely demise).
Failing that check out http://www.imcdb.org The international movie car database (they have pretty much everything there for Benzes in movies)
heh, yeah--Ronin

oh and nice link
There's a w116 in 'Matrix revolutions' you just get a glimpse but it's there!
Here http://www.hampstead.com.au/mb/index.php (http://www.hampstead.com.au/mb/index.php) is a site dedicated to M-B in the movies - and it's owned by a chap in Melbourne. I've written a few reviews for it over the past two years.
Lost Highway is the best 6.9 flick.....ever
also in Rocky 4 there was a black 116 with snow chains on it.
That's all I can think of off hand.
My 450SEL, will be in a film called "Rise of the Footsoldier" which should be out in september.

A British ganster film, based on a true story that led to the infamous Range Rover killings.
I bought my car from the film company.
it follows the life of a bloke called Carlton Leach, frm 1976 until 1996
This is the trailer for it

My opinion is that (after watching the Ronin chase scene perhaps a dozen times) it is NOT smoke and mirrors, but that the only special effect was the background sound (as it is impossible to correctly cut in natural sound during a scene as complicated as a chase).
The movements of the car, loading of the suspension and timing of the various smoky burnouts are far too perfectly choreographed to be faked. See Fast and Furious for an idea of how obvious vehicle performance special effects are - even in the most modern movies. The human eye and mind are far too familiar with vehicle dynamics in the natural state to be fooled by camera trickery. Simple physics - just like poolroom scenes - while you might get creative with cuts and timing of which shots to use, ONLY natural shots can replicate the physics of acceleration, braking and loading and unloading of tires and suspension.
My 2c.

I'm with you on this. the driving stunts in Ronin, were by Equipe Remy Julienne, who did the original Italian Job. They did without special effects on that one!

John H: Good to see you back here! Hope you're here to stay this time. :D
Thanks Sev. Looks like I have some movies to watch this weekend :) Nothing else matters in a movie as long as there is even a glimpse of a W116! ;D
the zodiac has a baby blue 116 in the background!
In the movie "A Man's Gotta Do" the lead character drives a V8 W116 and its seen regularly during the movie, both interior and exterior shots of the MB. Looks in top nick. The movie is pretty good as well once you get into it.
In the movie "Looking for Alibrandi" the main character's best school friend drives a W116 of some description, probably a 6cyl as it doesn't sound like a V8. Good to see teens picking up W116s for their 1st cars when they finish school.
In the movie "The Gods must be Crazy" security guards comandeer a W116 (again, sounds like a 6 cyl, not a V8 but since it was owned by a parliamentarian I'd imagine they'd own a V8) and way after trying to catch Sam Botha's gang the W116 runs out of petrol to the derision of the security guards "Gus Guzzler!". Slightly later you see the security standing to attention as their senior arrives yet does little to help them.... you'd have to see it to appreciate it.
On a non-W116 note, in Mad Max, the original one from 1979, at one point you can clearly see a customised Holden panel van which has W116 lights and indicators on it.
I'll update this thread as I see more W116s in movies, TV shows and video clips.
Ian.

I thought they were lights from a WB holden?
Looking for Alibrandi? I can't believe I missed that one when I saw it.
Looks like after all these years I thought it was a panel van, its actually a HJ Ute:

Just an update on my previous post, I had a look at A Man's Gotta Do again, and the lead character drives a brown 450SE, looks to be in perfect nick.... keen W116 fans will notice it has headlight wipers, which I rarely see on short wheelbase 116s.
Also, here is the opening from Alibrandi, with three babes in a blue 280S or SE? Of the 10 minute download, the car only seen for about 1 minute at the 4 or so minute mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alJaYjZ03co (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alJaYjZ03co)

W116 pale blue metallic with chrome Bundt's and non-DOT bumpers.

What about "Rendeverous" (6.9 not seen) and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (wrecked W116 in a battle scene near the end)? And isn't there one where an Indian guy drives one for ages but the car dies in the end (I can't remember the name)?

I'm just watching the 2005 movie 'House of Wax' and a nice W116 appears during the Paris Hilton death scene. She hides behind it. I think it's some kind of brown, perhaps Milan brown. Looks to be in pretty good shape under the dust.

Anyhoozle, Trailer Park Boys, just noticed this a week ago. It's the episode called "Closer to the Heart" where Ricky kidnaps Alex Leifson. Apparently, Mr. Lehy's wife drives a silver W116.

Yeah I think that's a one two three...
Hmm, that's made me think... Do you guys say "one two three" or "one twenty-three" or what? I say one one six for the 116. Does anyone here say one sixteen? Or a hundred and sixteen? lol.
Is there a right way to say it?
this conversation has probably been had before... :-X
Yeah, the silver one is a w123, but I admit they can look identical from a distance. I say one-twenty-three and one-sixteen.

Oh... I think he still posts on peachparts, and as I recall, he seems to have a confrontational/combative style to his posts which I've tended to give the benefit of the doubt, though they do rub against the grain.
This quote of his shares his true feelings on the W116:
"i don't know about 'best'. i mean, the w126 chassis was built better than the 116 in every way. it's heavier, has the same engine, but built better. the 123 is built better than a 116 also, and is lighter, with the same engine, but not as roomy and not built as well, in my opinion, than a 126. you have to wonder why so few 116's are still on the road today, compared to 123's. because 123's are built better than 116's in every way."
Though, the above quote was a response to someone's post about W116s being the best, which is really more an opinion than fact, though I do agree that W116s are fantastic cars.

I was just watching the 1981 classic thriller 'Body Heat' (because I wanted to see a naked sweaty 1980's-era Kathleen Turner - sue me) and was surprised to see that her character drives a nice US spec W116. It looked to be anthracite gray but it was a night scene so I couldn't tell what model, I think it was an SEL though. Not a bad flick, certainly delivered in the Kathleen Turner department.
*EDIT* You should know, high quality US market 6.9 content within.
Best scene of Lost Highway, in my opinion.

Funny thing is I was going to post the same thing! I saw the movie last night. Haven't seen the car from the back, so don't know if it was a 450SEL or 6.9...
Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but 21 Jump Street (2012) had one.

Funny nobody listed it yet, but the music boss in the series "Vinyl" cruises around in a W116 SEL, with phone and all. I expect it to be a 6.9, but have not seen the rear in detail yet (watched till episode 4)
I hadn't heard of this "Vinyl" show. Sounds interesting. I think I'll call up HBO and acquire the show legally. ;)
It's hectic. It's The Wolf of wall street in overdrive. The pilot alone was 2 hours or more. Massive script, massive cast, en it doesn't slow down in later episodes neither. Scorcese and Mick Jagger. Quite a combo!
