Oh good.  So it wasn't just me.  I had internet connection problems around about the same time.  Thought it might have had to do with storm damage and blackouts on the coast.

Glad the forum is back, I tend to wander off onto Rolls Royce and vintage Mercedes forums if I don't get a decent dose of W116 here.

Going to have a look at a supposedly concourse 280S on Friday, found out my 230 has a massive dent in the sump so may limit its lifespan

Interesting!  What chassis is the 280S?
Re the 230.  Since my 350 spent much of its former life on a farm and dirt roads, the sump was beaten in a fair bit.  My mechanic just bashed it out again, new gasket, no leaks 3yrs later.  But if you get a new one, they're not that expensive.  Around $30US for a M117 from memory.

Really? I thought it would have been an expensive item

I tend to go off road a bit (over foot paths, up alley ways etc... to get a short cut)
so the underside of my 230 tends to suffer a bit.
maybe I need a sump guard.

280S is a W116, apparently bright orange as well.

We call that bright orange colour in South Africa "pampoen", which is Afrikaans for pumpkin, which is obviously the same colour of the car!!

hey bright orange could also equal 'Byzantine Gold' (metallic) - very sexy in an wierd 70's way.  I'm considering it for my 280SE.

current options are :

a) citrus green
b) byzantine gold
c) 040 black
d) anthacite

ie either very conservative, or very unconservative.
