Hi nathan,

do you mean posting pics from somewhere other than the gallery? ie your computer. I hope so, because that's what I'm answering 8)

Most of my images I upload to http://www.imageshack.us/ then find the image's embeddable code that looks something like :
[IMG]http://img140.imageshack.us/blah blah blah [ / IMG]
Right click the code - copy - paste into post.

It takes a little bit of navigating and trial and error to post the right size.

A word of warning, you need to resize digital or scanned pics otherwise, imageshack or any other pic hosting site wont accept huge files.  The easiest way to do it is download Windows Image Resizer which'll cut down high res, memory hungry pics to sizes that are memory efficient and still clear.  They'll look like any of my pics I've posted.
Here's a link to read what it does
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx
Here's a link to download the program
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe

So resize first, upload to phto host, then copy and past embeddable code.  Hope that helps.  Regards,
Simon

So now the inevitable happens and the next poster will ask, " What's doing with the ML and goldie?"

Yeah, so what is doing there?

Another thing about imageshack, I should've mentioned to register just so your photos stay in your album and not lost in cyberspace.  Because if you upload without registering, then happen to delete cookies for some reason, then try to access the image again,- you'll become an anonymous viewer, able to view the photo but unable to delete/modify get more code etc.  I also downloaded the toolbar and find that helpful.  I can also say that despite the ads that I suppose keep the site free, I haven't had any problems with downloading and using the toolbar or using the site.

goldy was purchased from the owners of a winery 2 1/2 hrs from perth at a normal pace....from the sellers description, poor old goldy wasnt going to drive back so we (dad and I) drove down with a rented trailer...unofortunately, the 50 year storm was currently in progress on the day

it was either dads 430 or the gwagen, and i wanted the car back this century

whilst im in the groove, heres another one!

Your Dad went beserk with the options list on the ML Nathan  ;D !!!!!!!!
sigh....sitting back contemplating the next purchase..!

nathan

ill admit, dad has a problem
and you cant even see the cup holders for the 6-7 seats (yes they were an option) or the electric rear rear windows!
those PIAA lights on front were worth more than goldy
LOL

And we all know which car will be the better to drive once the goldie is fixed up!

Shame that MB decide to let their standards fall [off the chart] and build the MLs in America.  It nearly sent them broke with all the warranty claims on cars built there.  Hopefully those problems are no longer present in currect US built vehicles.

Silly isn't it.. Jeep went to Europe in order that they would get proper build quality and MB went off to the chewing gum factories of America and got what they deserved.

Nathan,

You're tantalising us with those pics and snippets of info.  I LOVE stories of rescuing old mercs.  More specifically, since I am moving towards being in the market for a 6.9, I would be interested to hear how you would describe the condition of this car and how much you paid for it.  Based on you having to trailer it, I presume it is either a project or a parts car?

Any info appreciated, Ryan

hi all,
BAR i agree, the first generation w163 MLs were very average but they were the first of all the SUVs out so had the hard task of being he guinea pig...the 2nd gen MLs (updated w163) were a fair bit better in my opinion

Ryan,
i went down to thisd farm with the idea of getting a project car but when we got th car home (and after changing the fuel pump, cleaning the tank and filter), the bloody thing pumped up and rang quite well!  i reregistered the car to my wifes disappointment (!) and it may get a 2nd lease at life...i just changed al the hydro spheres on my good 6.9 and plant to put the old ones (which werent too bad but i wasnt buying new ones for goldy) on goldy, making it a decent driver...there is some serious rust issues with teh carand  wreck body will need to be found, but thats not usualy too much of an expense...garbage runners typically go between 4-6 1/2 grand in wa...above 10 grand is  a decent car, 15 gran pretty sweet and the nicest ones can command around 20 grand
the attached one was about 4 grand (i was too late but did manage to buy the suspenion blocks!!)
best regards from perth

Holy crap I thought that was yours Nathan. I should read the text first. OzBenzHead would be interested in that photo for his book.

Such a shame though.  Why couldn't it have been a 280sel ::) oops, I mean, other car ;D

Sorry guys, I should've said a w123.  ::)  ;D

You're right though. Now I have to redeem myself.  Speaking of 280's, there was a post I saw ages ago of a pristine one I think in Qld that was hit in the rear writing it off.

- I finally found the thread in the ozbenz forum but ther's no pics anymore.  Some of you may have seen it when the thread was active but honestly, that 280sel looked fantastic.  If a merc dies thru neglect that's a shame, sometimes criminal IMO, but when a loved one like this meets an early demise it's saddening.  As if it's not bad enough seeing a small fender bender, it's sickening to see a merc with once beautiful lines contorted in an unnatural way. http://forum.mbspares.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=553&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
