Here is a screen shot of the finder window with one of the images attached.

You can post images directly from Facebook using a link.
On Facebook, open the image, right click on it, select "Copy image URL" (might be called something else in your browser), then paste the image like so:

The end effect:

Posting links to images is a better way to share than attaching the images. Please just don't let the links die.

I have also changed some settings for attachments and hope this fixes the issue.

Many thanks for everyone's help.  Personally, (as ImageShack has reneged on their hosting, you will see that a lot of the links to the photos in my "blog" are now lost) I prefer using our own hosting.  I really preferred the original method in which we hosted our pictures directly on the org, and could place them within the post, rather than tag them on as it now works.  I will however try the Facebook method if my re-attempt at attaching photos in the usual way doesn't work.  I think we can trust Facebook.

My issues may have emanated from the fact that iPhotos has now morphed into Photos.  It's also quite convoluted to get the photos to the correct size.  I re-size to the smallest amount in iPhoto/photos, then via preview, I can fine just so that they fall under the 514 KB.  Perhaps this could be causing the problems?  There may be an easier way to re-size photos, and any help here would be appreciated.

Once again many thanks for your continued support and unerring help.  We'll see Mrs White ride again!
;)

P.S. if there were a way to unlock old posts, I do still have all my old photos, but I suspect this would be impractical to implement?

There's also the practical benefit of faster page loading using this method, and it applies as much to Facebook, as it does to Google Photos/Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive (and many others). Unless you delete them, those images will be stored in several copies across the globe (wherever those orgs have points of presence), and served from the nearest geographical location of the viewer through some of the Internet's fastest links.  I don't think the Org setup is as advanced.

Gavin, the large dimensions (pixels) size of the images are causing the issues with your posts when you add the attachments. Not your fault but you have found a bug in the software. We have made some more changes that we hope should avoid this issue.

If you want to attach photos still (please do!) then rather than just lowering the resolution to create a smaller file size, reduce the pixel dimensions while keeping the higher resolution. The maximum image size is currently set at 1024 pixels with a maximum file size of 1Mb.
