BAD, BAD, BAD...
Its becoming more and more impossible to post pictures on the forum, and the HTML code is MISBEHAVING!
Or am I just alone in my frustration here...?
I was using Picasa to host my images with no problem at all. But recently, it does not allow me to access my photos on FireFox, so I have to access them through Explorer instead.
Basic HTML have been enabled in posts. This will allow the posting of some basic HTML tags:
<b>, <u>, <i>, <s>, <em>, <ins>, <del>
<a href="">
<img src="" alt="" />
<br />, <hr />
<pre>, <blockquote>
Test...

Edit: works ok with Photobucket hosting, and viewed on Safari on a Mac. What issues are people having?
this pic is cool.
Thanks, No point in putting up a boring pic ;D
However, I do agree that a lot of pics just show up as placeholders, for example entresz's shot of the damage to his car in the first post of this thread: http://forum.w116.org/test-drive/why-i-absolutely-hate-4-wheel-drives/
I still don't know what the damage looks like, but maybe that's for the best, sounds nasty (sorry for your trouble, entresz).
Although I always use hosted pics, it is frustrating to see empty placeholders in other posts, can anything be done, (by the posters themselves, or by admins?)
Hi Type17
I always used to word process my posts in Word, then copy and paste them into the org's "post reply". I would then select certain titles, and click the bold button, change a colour, and also its positioning. I could add some pictures too. The past few times when I did this, there seems to be some automatic features involved, and it corrupts the post with html script and actions. This only seems to happen with very long post with many changes and lots of photos. Strange things happen to the size if you try to cut a section of text and paste it in a different place.
ImageShack lost some of my links. I can upload the photos back to ImageShack, but now the post is locked with a 12 - 24 hour period it seems. One cannot therefore fix any problems. ImageShack now want money to host your pictures. Dropbox will not allow you to make any direct links. I don't like the new attach feature either, as you have to be signed in to see the images.
Often when looking at the site, Safari has a wobbly: it says there is something wrong with the site's certificate, and the presentation of the web page is change to a white sheet with the typing spread all over.
Here is just one example of the corruption of which I speak: You'll notice in this cut and paste section "size" suddenly appearing... You will also note the strange tall paragraph spacing that never used to occur... Once you get a few of these corruptions in your post, they become exponentially more and more difficult to fix. When you delete the extraneous html characters, they seem to migrate to other places within the document etc.

I have to learn to be more patient,
Gavin
Edit, the certificate thing just happened... this is what the org pages look like

ImageShak are a right bunch of bastards. I used them too, but I refused to pay their ransom. Now I think I'm right in saying that every image I've ever uploaded, anywhere, is gone. >:( I still have the originals, so I haven't lost anything myself, but as you say, posts on the org get locked down after a while, so I can't go back and replace the dead photos that I've posted here.
John Hubertz recommended I try imgur and it's been great so far. Very easy. I recommend imgur if you're interested in a new free host.
But anyhoo, I've been having some errors when I visit the org too. I use chrome. I've been getting this message for a few weeks now:
(http://i.imgur.com/JuF66pt.jpg)
I'm also having that other issue that you showed. This is happening to me too:
(http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/5408/pl6j.png) (http://img834.imageshack.us/i/pl6j.png/)
I have had both these experiences recently as well.
And I as well.
We are all frustrated :(
Those warnings about the gridserver.com are not a major issue but just your browser trying to force a secure connection and w116.org doesn't hold a security certificate. You should be able to proceed safely.
The strange, unformatted screens are another issue. Please PM me when this occurs so the issue can be tracked down and rectified.
Thanks
I get the formatted screens occasionally - usually I just go to the bookmark in Firefox (Mac) and go to the site again.
I'm getting that funny screen too with the list down the left hand side, I use Firefox and it tells me to get the hell out of there, I know there's no problem with the org but I figured something had been hijacked
by the internet gremlins so I just shut it down. Happens every once in a while, no pattern it seems.
Just tells me security is not OK ???
This happens to me A LOT! >:( :o ??? :-\ :'(
This is happening with VERY annoying regularity! HELP!
This problem is still driving me bonkers and I bet I'm not the only one.... Can Admin fix this please??
Yes it happens so often I am reluctant to use this forum. >:(
DITTO !!!!!!! >:(
Where's Admin? Have they abandoned us?? :( :o ??? ::) :'(
what are you guys on about?!
Hi Nathan at least 3 out of every 4 attempts to view forum it goes not load properly see beging of post. Or in m case tells me security issue continuing not recommended. I have a new windows 8 laptop. Dont know if the others do. But it is very discouraging. >:(
Still not seeing the issue here and doesn't help that it seems to be intermittent :-[ :'(
Be assured that the security warning is simply advising of the security certificate of our shared hosting.
The search for a solution continues...
Thank you I don't get it on my android tablet . But on windows 8 laptop if that helps. :)
Yeah, every now and then it seems the forum.w116.org URI is redirected to a misconfigured hosting server, which presents an invalid SSL certificate and serves no CSS/JS files at all.
Not sure I like the sound of that...
It just happened again.... >:(
It's happening more frequently for me, about every second time I log on, it is getting annoying.
