Forum upgrade
« on: 14 August 2011, 05:15 PM »
The forum will be upgrading this week to the latest forum software.

This will result in some downtime and the appearance of the forum will be in a state of flux until complete.

This upgrade should assist with the increase in spammers hitting our forum.

Stage 1 of the upgrade is now complete.

This forum will look unfamiliar until we can complete the upgrade over the coming days (weeks?).

Thank you for your patience!

I just logged in then... It came as quite a surprise indeed. I'm sure it will do the trick.

I believe he said the old layout will be coming back after a state of flux.

I certainly hope so, as while the new one is kind of clean, it's just not as ergonomic as slightly different shades of grey just all look the same and everything blends together too much.

At least I finally found the links I always use that randomly moved. :)

I don't easily accept change, but this is actually growing on me.  It is clean and cool, so thank you admin, I will trust your judgement, but ask if you can consider this request :

At the moment, the front page of the forum has almost half of its vertical space allotted to the logo, slogan, personalised welcome, search bar, shortcuts etc.  This results in one having to scroll down to see all 7 of the main boards.  Is it possible to reposition the stuff at the top a bit so as to use a bit less real-estate?

Thanks

Hit the white arrow/chevron on the top right, to collapse some of the stuff that you don't want to see.

On the home page, with the new placement of the News item, the rest of the page jumps up and down as the box resizes to accomodate different content.  So you go to click on a link and suddenly it moves out from under you.  :-\

E-mail notifications are now coming from "Forum" rather than "W116.org"...

I usually hate change but this new look is growing on me.

One question, I was just looking down the bottom of the main page to see who's in the house and noticed this listed with other members present; Yahoo!, Google (4), Baidu

what does that mean?

What's "POVO" in your signature mean?

Thanks man.  I've never seen em come up before.

Povo is the nickname for my track car, or what was my track car.  Haven't touched it since 2009 but I think you guys use the term too for "poverty spec"or "poverty pack", for cars with no refinements, maybe one step above a cheap POS.  ;D  The 280S track car has manual windows, no sunroof, manual trans, carburettor etc.  W116s couldn't have come more basic I don't think.  Actually, it did have air con so that was a plus in it's former life.
