Title: Wipers parking in random positions
Post by: TJ 450 on 07 July 2020, 11:44 AM
Heaven forbid, I drove my 116 in the rain recently and had to use the wipers. They stop halfway back across the windscreen and other places half the time and I've tried swapping the relay to no avail. It does the same thing using the washer.

How does it know it's in the park position?

Hi Tim,

Had the same problem years ago (hard to guess you have the same issue) and the only thing that fixed it was replacing the motor itself.  I understand you swapped the relay so that's ruled out. The other possibility I can think of are dirty contacts on you stalk/lever inside the rotating knob. I've never opened one so no idea how to disassemble it. Or a corroded fuse too.
It seems like an issue that could happen to anybody. So sharing your findings is appreciated.

(don't shoot me but) I have that issue with my CRV as we speak. Mechanic said it was the wiper blades, and we exchanged them. He said it was the windshield, so we fanatically cleaned it. I always claimed it was the motor, despite never having seen this issue on 3 other identical CRV's in 15 years.
I am going to change out the motor.

I'm pretty sure I've got a spare motor around somewhere, I'll have a search for it. If it is the motor, I'm thinking there must be a switch built into it so the relay knows the position.

Nathan, the 6.9 drives faster in the rain.  you should try it.

Hahaha,

Yes the 6.9 has seen a bit of rain (and mud) over the last few years, but I have done a lot of driving all over the place.

I'll see how I go with the motor, I think I have one in a storage container somewhere.

RD you lunatic, 116s are as robust in the rain as fairy floss! they disintegrate , so I keep mine safely tucked away when the devils tears appear!
