I recently acquired a 116.036 and only have one key for it.
I'd love to get a couple of key blanks so I can have additional keys cut, but all the usual places seem to be dead ends. One key is not a good long term solution.
This is the style of key (see picture), and appears to be a Silca aftermarket key rather than a MB original part.
Any tips, anywhere in the world would be greatly appreciated. Prefer genuine MB but open to options.
MB is the place. You will have to drive your car there to prove you own it, then they will order new keys based off you VIN.
Silca blanks are the genuine article, if you can still get that model of blade. For ready made keys, follow Rumbs advice.
With a key that worn out I would get new keys.

That's also another reason for asking. This key is very worn and is a duplicate.
The keys will be cut from code, the code is read from the existing key profile by an electronic feeler and then cut with a CNC machine electronically, rather than duplicated directly using a profile follower system. I just need the blanks, which MB do not seem to carry. I'll ask again, but I think it may be limited to ordering cut keys from MB's office in Singapore or Germany, as it isn't done here in Australia.
Car not currently in operating condition, so i'll have to get the formal registration documents and take to a dealer and it might take a few weeks to get the keys ordered.
Ebay seems to have plenty of w116 key blanks.
I would wonder if buying a blank and paying to cut is more than a key from MB.Im pretty sure I paid <$20 for a key a few years ago from MB.
Most ebay are copies, but a seller in Turkey has 2 originals for $120.
Andrew,
Barrenjoey Locksmiths in Brookvale, NSW had Silca square head blanks a few years ago, which I used to cut from my 450SLC original. Code on head is "NU 41P".
Cheers.

Thank you - is it a HU 41P, rather than NU 41P? The original keys (and locks) were made for Mercedes by HUF (Hüf) so I assume it might be a HU 41P
I'll still see if I can get some original blanks but Brookvale isn't too far, plus I have to go there to pick up the replacement battery (Warriewood actually) anyway.
I was told by MB Australia a few months ago you cant order new 116 keys any longer. I rarely use local dealers but for a key had to. Ill be interested if anyone can actually get a key from the dealer.

You're right. HU 41P.
For my 6.9, I also have Barrenjoey recuts with metal heads marked ilco MB18 and also Silca Italy HU23.
