i have a 76 djet injected 280se and i have found there is a pipe that runs up the back of the radiator near the oil cooler then there is a hose connected to this that runs down near where the air filter is the problem i have is i dunno what this is or where it should go..... cant trace it all the way back..... runs pretty much straight back from the edge of the radiato towards the rear of the car can only follow it till near the rear of the engine bay as i havnt got it on a hoist.... hopefully someone knows exactly what i am talking about and can tell me where i need to put it........

Some pictures would help - is this an Aus spec car?  If so, it sounds like you may be talking about the charcoal canister piping.  Or if you are talking about thick rubber lines with steel end fittings, perhaps the engine oil cooler feed and return?

no doesnt actuall go in the cooler at all.... i will try and get pics but always have trouble uploading...... it looks like it is the same hose on my 77 k-jet injected model that goes to the charcoal canister however my 76 d-jet has no canister as far as i can see so this is why i am confused....... yes it is aus spec.....

Maybe the charcoal canister is missing?  But I thought it was a requirement for a vehicle inspection there?

If you want to upload pictures to this site you have to upload them to a site that can be accessed from the internet eg www.photobucket.com or into the the album here at this site and then put the address of that photo into the text after pressing the "Photo" button.

I was under the impression that D-Jet cars didn't have evap control, as that was an ADR27A requirement introduced in July 1976. They do have EGR though.

I suspect it is something else, but only pics will reveal.

my camera is not working so no photos unfortuantly but it is definatly the same hose that goes to the carbon canister on my 77 model... same pipe running under engine bay up the side of the radiator... the only thing i can assume is that this car originally had a k-jet motor and was later fitted with the d-jet i dunno that doesnt really make any sense as to why someone would do that but is the only assumption i can make.... there is no carbon canister as the air filter is where the canister is on the k-jet models however the pipe and hose is there very confusing......

actually that might make sense as when i purchased the car from michel he gave me some paperwork from the rta and the police because he had previously had issues with the engine number..... would definatly like to find out more histor about the car..... must go and read the vin plate properly and find out more..... is there any way i can find out info on the car from the vin number??????

It depends on what sort of info you want. ;)

The options plate will help narrow things down and do you have any paperwork, ie log books etc?

no paper work at all.... VIN is 116024 22 061303 build date 5/76...... so would have been a d-jet motor..... does not have the emissions control sticker as the k-jet model does..... i do not know what means what on the options plate....

152624 is the cylinder firing order.

The engine number is stamped on the top of the block face, on a ledge that extends just outside of the cylinder head.  This ledge is located behind the distributor, but just in front of the cylinder 1 inlet port.  Its usually gunked up with grease and dirt there, so you will have to clean it up.

The engine number will be 110.98x......, where x = 5 for K-jet - can't remember for D-jet, I think its x = 3.
