Wheel Fitment

Hey Folks,

I found a variety of threads, but nothing that gave me the answer/info I was after. I'm wanting to switch over to a set of 16" wheels that're 8x16, and come in three offsets: 11, 22, or 35. I'm currently running a set of Bundt's on the car, and have no idea what their specs are (theoretically, they're they stock 6.9 wheels that came on the car). Does anyone know which offset would be best for the car?

This is for a 6.9, which I know changes some things versus a standard 450SE/450SEL, but I wasn't certain precisely what.

To the best of my knowledge, the original 6Jx14 and 6.5Jx14 Bundts from Fuchs were ET30 (A108 part number), and the 7Jx15 were ET25 (A126 part number). The actual offset should be indicated on the inside of the rim, along with the MB part number.

My 15" ATS are ET23 I believe.

The original penta rims were 8jx16et11, if that gives you some confidence.  The et22 should also work and I'll have more neutral handling.  At one point I had 8jx16et22 lorinsers on one of the cars and clearance issues were fine.

I'd recommend the 22 mm offset.

'Stormcloud' has  Lorinser RS 90 16 X 8 et 22 rims with 215/60R-16 Michelin CrossClimate+ XL tires, with no fitment issues.
She feels a lot more surefooted in the curves.

She originally came from the Newark PNP corral with CLK 320 rims (MB part number A 208 401 00 02, seven spoke aluminum rims, 7X16 et 37) and junk 205/60R16 tires.
The rims did fit, but hub caps could not be installed on the front wheels.

Okay, strange thing. This is the response I just got from the Lorinser sales rep with regards to putting my 6.9 on their wheels:

QuoteSo I have been working with Lorinser and unfortunately you have a unique brake setup that makes the one and only old school wheel they have not compatible. I asked for any recommendations but don't have any available. Sorry for the bad news. Thank you for the opportunity to try and get you setup with Lorinser Wheels. Have a great day!

Does anyone know what they're talking about? I'm going to reach out to Lorinser directly and get clarification on this. Has anyone run a Lorinser wheel on a Mercedes 6.9?

I had old school Lorinser LO-1 stepped set on the blue 6.9 with no issues.

Front 8jx16 et 22
Rear 9jx16et0

Ive now put those wheels on one of the 500SEL

Do you've photos of that setup, S Class? That's the exact wheel I'm looking at.

he probably relates to a so-called X value or the clearance for the calliper.
It means that wheels hub has a flat surface straight to the rim edge thus not allowing to clear the caliper. Most modern cars have high offset and the caliper is behind the flat surface of the axle hub unlike earlier cars where the clearance was made through the wheel design.

Observe the Baroque wheels and see how the wheel hub is raised from the front surface of the wheel

8.5" wheels have 19mm offset for R/C107 and I doubt it is any different fro 116. ET11 on 8" wheel may give you better clarance for the caliper over ET22 in modern wheels design
