Wheel bearing seal

Hi guys
Is the seal on the inner wheel bearing supposed to sit a few mm proud of the hub when driven in? At present mine is about 3mm proud if the edge.
On the W126 benzworld.org forum there is an excellent write up and the author states that the seal must sit a bit proud and one should not go pounding on the seal trying to get it flush.
Correct?
Cheers

Front wheel, inside seal - correct?
It should sit flush with the hub on cars without ABS, and protrudes a couple mm on hubs with ABS.

Without ABS (edit: the seal sits flush, with the dust lip going over the edge, so it'll still protrude a little)

I can't remember if mine had the extra lip or not,  but it needed only a few light taps to seat fully.

Hmmm.  Maybe the kit I got has the wrong seal? Unlikely as I believe FAG is OEM?

both aftermarket seals and Mercedes seals now sit proud of the edge.  Only the old seals sit flush.  It's ok, and nothing will happen to the seal.
