I feel like an idiot, but I just can not find a diagram for the vacuum system on my 1979 300SD. I looked in the Service Manual Library and couldn't figure out where any of the lines went. I would appreciate any help.

Zipper - You don't state which vacuum system you're looking for.

Here is the 79 ACC http://handbook.w116.org/Climate%5C83-604.pdf

79 central locking http://handbook.w116.org/Chassis%5C80-260.pdf

Well, neither of those are what I am looking for, but I guess it will have to do. Thanks.

What are you looking for?

I was hoping I could find a complete diagram showing where all the vacuum lines in the engine compartment go, and what they do.

I have a 1979 300SD, and both Chassis manuals (Vol I and II) and the engine manual. The engine manual has nothing about vacuum lines, and Vol. II has only two sections on the vacuum system: Central Locking and ACC.

You can start with this,

http://handbook.w116.org/Chassis%5C80-010.pdf

a general description of the entire vacuum system, beginning with the intake manifold. There is a picture of the OM617 with vacuum line attached on pg. 3.

From what I gather, (1) is the line directly from the intake manifold, which produces the initial vacuum, and (2) is the check valve. Each latter section of the manual builds on this.

Hope this helps.
