Upper Control Arms Installation

Hello all,

I am replacing the upper control arms on my 73' 450 SE, and, after stripping then replacing the 19 mm bolts connecting to the sway bar (shoutout tacoma screw in seattle area) I am ready to put the control arms back in.

Has anyone been able to screw the control arm into the steering knuckle without some spring compressor? I cant quite reach the threads with my new control arms. I saw that Kent Bergsma was able to get it in my just using a floor jack to compress the spring, but that isnt enough it seems. Maybe I need to more strategically place the jack?

Also, does anyone know the best way to insert the sway bar bushings? Maybe a hammer is best?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I replaced the two upper control arms on my 1975 450 SE three years ago. It went fairly smooth. I followed Kent's method I believe using a floor jack and a big plybar. If I remember correctly I used the plybar to lift the sway bar.

I had to apply some pressure on the bolt when fastening for the threads to catch.

Got it done last night. Had to re-tap the hole in the sway bar. Thank you!
