Can anyone steer me to whether MB -as a matter of course -include data plates on the cars that indicate transmission type./model/.serial no etc.?
Is it possibly included in the codes for the options which usually is attached to the radiator surround/aperture?
Thanks
The only transmission related mark on the data plate is whether it's automatic or manual. It's the eighth digit of the VIN (2=auto, 1=manual)
The full transmission type is encoded in the first six digits of the transmission number stamped on the bottom of the tranny passenger side, looking from the front on LHD cars.
It'll be something like 722.00x yy zzzzzz
@ptashek,
the pic shows a 722.XXX transmission. Do we find the number on the underside .... the front part ..... and can be found (and read) by crawling under the car?
Inside red area just above the pan:
What Daniel said! (and I should've been more specific with my definition of "bottom" in the first place)
Fantastic - thanks to both of you!
I'll be found crawling under the car at the weekend ;D
Thanks for all of that but something doesn't compute,.
The 8th letter in the VIN is part of the block 21 or 22. This is the designator for LH or RH drive?
viz 116 036 22 005504 Ie the group 21 or 22 designates lh or rh d.
any suggestions?
The 7th digit indicates LH or RH drive. Such as "1" for RHD and "2" for LHD, so your car should be a LHD automatic. They just happen to be beside one another in the block. I may have the 8th vs 7th digit bit backwards, but those two digits indicate something by themselves, they just happen to be next to one another.
OK.I got it.!!....the 1st 2 is the driving side. The second 2 is the tranny. auto for 2. I think a manual is 0.
Thanks for clearing that up.
.... my number is 116.032.12...... which means LHD (1) and automatic (2). RHD = 2 and Manual = 0
