He guys, my mechanic tells me I should get a NOS torque converter for my project. I found 1232500102, but is that the right one for a 79 280S?
Where could I find such info, also in regards to my 17 280SE that may come later?
Any data would be much appreciated

Why not get the old one rebuilt instead? Most likely way cheaper (around 500EUR), and same effect.

The correct part number for a 280S (116.020) with the 722.1x tranny (W4B 025) is A7222501602, and directly replaces A1232500102. Available new from your nearest dealership for around 1600EUR. The same part number applies to all 722.1 transmissions, so that would include your 280SE.

Xentry shows it comes as a parts kit:

1   A 722 250 16 02   CONVERTOR 270 MM (x1)
5   N 007603 010100   SEALING RING (x1)
6   N 000908 010004   SCREW PLUG (x1)
6   N 000000 000648   SCREW PLUG (x1)

Wow, thanks. :D But also: no thanks! 1600 euro is not going to happen. Any idea about average rebuilding fees for such a converter? The NOS one I found is a few hundred buck..gotta see what the final number will be after negotiation and shipping quotes..Then compare..

About 500-600eur in our neck of the wood.
The only thing remaining from the original part is the extermal shell. The rest is replaced with brand new parts. Some companies do core replacements, which will be cheaper again. You send them yours, they send you an already rebuilt one.

and those internal parts are generic? Betting big money on everyone in Taiwan telling me they can't refurbish it coz their supplier wouldn't have the parts.

Maybe not universally generic, but certainly within a large model range of the same brand.
