Sunroof cable replacement

My sunroof cable is damaged and the motor skips when reaching the worn part thus only opening the sunroof up to a certain point. I opened up the motor and found it to be working well, including the sprocket that usually causes problems but the cable itself is stripped right where it starts skipping. Does anyone know the part number for the cable? It seems hard to find, is it hard obtaining a new or used one in good condition? Do other models share the same part? Thanks!

New cables are no longer available, so you'll have to go with used. Unfortunately, I just sold a short wheelbase W116 sunroof cable that had been in my shed for years. Part number 115 780 03 89 should be what you need. Long wheelbase (SEL) take a longer cable. I think some W114/W115 coupes used this cable as well. One from a W123 or W126 won't work.

Thanks, that's very useful. I can't seem to find the part number anywhere for sale but I'll keep an eye on Ebay, hopefully one will pop up soon.

I had an issue with the guide tube that took the cable with it. Long story short, I went the same route with a used cable and tube. One important detail is to use the Mercedes Gleitpaste (lubrication grease). I wouldn't use anything else.
