Sump guard - 6.9

Hi guys

Well, it would not be the start of a new year if we do not talk about the infamous 6.9 Baffle Plate ;D  Ok no, just seeing who is paying attention...

Looking at the EPC, it's strange (at least to me), as the pic shows clearly a type of bash guard/sump plate for the 6.9, however if you click on the part it shows the 116 888 02 38, which of course is the infamous "baffle plate", long since NLA and thus true unobtainium.  But of course this is not a sump protective plate at all, rather a decorative trim in my opinion.

Looking at past posts, what I saw is:

116 520 04 42 - Is this for the 6.9..?
116 520 00 42 - I think this is for non 6.9, right?
116 888 00 38 - this part looks like the one in the EPC for the 6.9..?

Ugh, this is confusing, anybody have a clear answer on this one?

Cheers

Daniel

Looking at Xentry drawings, these are one and the same part.

This one's called "Guide Plate" in Xentry, and is not listed as a valid part for the 6.9

I don't know if my post adds to clarity or not.
In my original parts catalogue from the VDH (german Merc club) for the 6.9 I found the subsequent part. A number that has not yet been mentioned in all the previous Posts.

That looks like the guard for the engine oil supply hoses. Interestingly, it uses the same mounting hole and spacer tube and bolt that the fanfare horn bracket and possibly sump guard/skid plate would use.

Here is a post with some previous info on the matter:

Interesting to see the difference between the skid plate for the 6.9 and the rest of the models. It appears the one for the 6.9 is special because it has a section cut away to accommodate for the guard for the engine oil supply hoses. It also appears to have brackets for either mounting fanfare horns, or another guard piece.

Daniel, are you looking to find the 6.9 plate?  It's possible that I got one.

Indeed ;D  I am looking at the 6.9 plate, not the one for the hoses, I have that one.  Thus looks like part# 116 520 04 42.  I agree that cut out in the plate looks to accomodate the hoses, however not clear if you then use this larger plate with the hose cover plate?  Looks like it might clash with one another?

Main reason is I looked at the aux trans pump and that bugger sits so low that any big dip in the front will likely destroy that pump :o

Uh oh, now I think I'm confused.  I didn't know there were multiple plates.  All I recall is the plate below the hoses.  It looks like the plate pictured in BCK1963's post.  Of course if you want to protect the pump and you don't have the chin spoiler you could try to find one.  Then any big dip would sacrifice the spoiler to protect the pump.   ::) ;D

Hi Guys!

Happy New Year!

I have one of these engine plate/guards at my shop.  I bought it NOS from south america a few years ago and never got a round to mounting it.  From what I recall it is massive! And if I remember correctly it still has the MB sticker and part number on it so  ill post it all when I get to the shop.

(not the oil sump hose cover (which IS installed on my cars) but the lower engine cover)

If the data from the link at the top of this chain is correct this sump is for non 6.9 models.  Bummer for me because its the one I also have that I thought was for a 6.9. Pics of mine are below.
