stripped sunroof cable

I have a stripped sunroof cable about halfway through which is causing my sunroof to stop with grind whenever it reaches that section. This cable is NLA now unfortunately, has anyone ever attempted to fix the stripped part? Any ideas?

I am not aware of a fix available for the cable. Your best bet would be a used one.

Does anyone have a used or new one for sale?

You'd be safer ensuring a part number first. Makes searching for NLA's and offers much easier. Is it this one?

Yeah, super hard finding one so far, I scoured the net for both new and used but no luck! If you guys hear about one for sale or know anyone willing to part with it, please let me know. It's literally the only thing not working properly on my car and it's driving me crazy.

I know this is not useful to this thread, and I am probably in the minority, but I find a sunroof the most useless thing on a car.  If you want a breeze, crank open the window, if you're hot, turn on the AC.  Done.  They all leak in time, and on an old car they are almost always a nightmare to refurb.  Just my 2c :P

Totally agree, I live in a hot climate and its pretty useless but the car comes with it, ideally I'd like to fix. It's just one of those things on old cars, nobody bothers with making them work. I'm a cable away from restoring it!

Sunroof appear to be daunting, but once you have taken one apart you learn that is is really quite simple. A well lubed sunroof is a pleasure.  I use all of mine often. The front rubber seal though on a W108 is quite difficult to get in properly.  I havent done the W116 yet but I think it will be the same. It has a lip on the bottom and top that have to both be pushed in at the same time.

I am very happy with the manually-operated sunroof of my W116.

There's a company in Switzerland which may be able to make a replacement flexible shaft to fit the original rigid housing, and motor end.

Note to self--from now on ALWAYS remove the sunroof cables from W116s when I'm in the wrecking yard.

Thanks ptashek, I'll email the Swedish dudes. Is a manual conversion feasible? Might seem too much trouble though when all I need is the cable.

What I read from forums and EPC is that there are S/SE and SEL cables
I do not find proof of that in the EPC. There are 2 numbers, but they are clearly the same cable.
Whatever the case, according to the forums, any other SEL cables can be used for S/SE without much work

The W115 cable is a previous number same as the W116 cable, last sold as 1157800389.
It is a much more common part number than the W116's 1167800089

stillmatic

Thanks Floyd, I was only aware of the 1157800389 and I couldn't find that one anywhere so far. Same goes for 116 number, seems like these cables are nowhere to be found.
