THey should be a nice fit for the front speakers.

I just bought new speakers.

From recent threads by ChrisM and jjccp I got some great ideas on what to do but instead of going the whole hog with amp, sub etc.  I've decided to get some decent speakers to fit the factory holes or near enough.

I ended up with sony xplod 4" 2way fronts and 6.5" 3way rears.  It's all being plugged into a Becker Monza which I've still got in pieces.  A cassette adapter's going to be my line-in for my ipod.  With mid year sales I picked up the speakers all up for AUD$130 which were AUD$279.  They're not the best but they'll do and will be a massive improvement on what I've got now.

Here's a link to an aussie car audiophile site which rates quality of brands.  I'm glad I got the newer sony stuff.  It's one of those things, you get what you pay for.

Hopefully I'll get pics in the next week or so.

I'm tempted to either get one of these or try to figure it out myself,

My '76 450SEL only has the lower dash cutouts right now.  I had over $3000 ($330 for the front 2 way component speakers alone) in equipment in my '76 280C and spent 40 hours doing a stealth install. I miss that system sometimes but what I find interesting is that the plain old Becker Mexico and those two little 4" speakers sound fine if I don't try to turn it up too high.

They arrived today, they shipped UPS from a warehouse 10 miles from me.

Installation was easy altho I did have to clip the top corners and drill two holes.

They definitely have a better top end but sounded very muddy and fatiguing so I reversed the phase to one and that cleared it up.
