Just say no to platinum plugs!!!

Denso and Beru spark plugs are okay too.

Rule of thumb.....

When you change your spark plugs, change your fuel filter !

Ok well the job is done!

i changed my oil and filter and put in the bosch super 4 spark plugs. oh my god!! what a *$%# of a job that was to change the plugs!!

anyway, the results are in and the motor is running smoother and quieter, with a slight increase in oil pressure.
this is all down to the penrite oil i put in it, so i definately recommend it. its great stuff.

i still need to get a new distributor cap and rotor next week.

hey Nutz, how often should the fuel filter be changed?? mine looks pretty shiny and has 01/06 written on it in marker pen. i assume it was last changed on january of 2006, and if so, its not done many km since.

Well, usually it's 30,000 miles but when you're dealing with high mileage vehicles it is safe practice to change when spark plugs are changed or once a year.

Paolo - what is the verdict now on the plugs and the motor?
Has anyone used Iridium plugs?

NGK make the Iridium plugs - http://www.ngkspark.com.au/product_index.htm?http://www.ngkspark.com.au/pages/product_spark.htm
Just wondered if people have used them? They are supposed to clean quicker after slow stop start driving.

The BP6ES's worked well in my car while I was using it day to day but tended to soot up when the car was first being painted and only started and run in the shed.

I have replaced them with BP5ES's while I am painting the car an have had no problems with fouling plugs.

When It is a daily runner again I will probably go back to BP6ES's.

Oh yes, I got my new ignition leads from Autohaus for the 280SE - they have 1k supressors as Bandolero suggested were right.  Installed, it looks a hell of a lot better than the old tangled mass of stiff old wire.  Made no difference to performance though.   :(

Not yet ! The old ones will have eventually broken down, and you can spend a lot of time trying to trace and test the leads to find the problems, so in the end, it is probably cheaper to replace them, and they will last you another 10 years at least.

W116's are sensitive on their sparkplugs and leads they need bosch or beru sparkplugs becouse they run the best on it , and the leads must also be bosch or beru
