I'm in need of a regulator for the driver's front window for my 1980 300SD. The original failed and we tried an aftermarket for a couple weeks until it bent itself silly. Our local garage poked around a ton and couldn't find any. They called the MB Classic center and were told there is currently not enough demand to do a run of them.

Any other ideas? Creative ways to fab or replace the frame?

Don't bother with MTC, URO (insert any other POS part made in China here).  They crap out in short order as you have experienced.  You will need to source a good used one. They are out there on ebay, and you can still find them new as well but they are pricey as hell.  No easy solution on these, it's a messy job and you need to replace with a good part otherwise you will have to do it over again.  Also take the opportunity to check all your regulators, clean off the gummy old grease, and replace with fresh grease, time well spent.

001-989-37-51-09  is proper grease for regulators

There have been discussions here before about using 2 ea 1/4" steel reinforcing bars, or even making plates that would be screwed to the bent plates that would straighten and reinforce the existing plate.

right front and left rear are available for about $335 from online dealers.

the others for about $450 on fleabay

Even if I bought new ones I would add the reinforcing bars to them.

I keep looking at all my bent ones trying to figure out how to straighten them some.  I'm thinking of using the steel bars and a torch to heat the aluminum.

I think can get them from my 6.9 parts. What is needed to take them out? Bolts or screws? I forget.
